Few Christian bands have enjoyed the longevity and underground critical acclaim as Mad at the World. From the day mailman and lead singer Roger Rose stuck a tape in a record company executive's mailbox until current times, Mad at the World has turned heads with their provocative music.
The first two albums featured a synth/pop style of music. Then, in order to have a sound more amiable for live performances, the band's musical style shifted to hard rock for the next three albums. The last two albums brought some member changes and a more retro sounding style of music.
Lyrically, the band delves into the many struggles we face in life and reminds us of our hope in our Saviour, Jesus Christ. Issues dealt with in the songs include drugs, anger, hopelessness, and lost loves -- as well as hope, love, peace, forgiveness, blessed relationships, and eternal life.

Don't give up, believers, you're almost there.
'Cause you're in a land where no one seems to care,
Jesus cares, and he wants to hold your hand.
Well, it's hard sometimes - please don't give up,
Well, it seems so hard sometimes - please don't give up.
'Cause you're in a land where no one seems to care,
Jesus cares, and he wants to hold your hand.
'Cause you're in a land where no one seems to care,
Jesus cares, and he wants to hold your hand.
I see your heart drowning in the mire,
I feel your heart's cold now - God, set it on fire.
'Cause you're in a land where no one seems to care,
Jesus cares, and he wants to hold your...
He wants to hold your...
He wants to hold your hand,
Oh, yeah, yeah.
The lyrics of Mad At The World's song "Don't Give Up" speaks to soldiers and believers who are almost at the finish line, but may feel discouraged in their current environment where no one seems to care. The song offers comfort and hope, reminding them that Jesus cares for them and wants to hold their hand. The repetition of "don't give up" emphasizes the message of endurance and perseverance, despite the challenges that may come their way.
The song acknowledges that life can be hard sometimes and that it's easy to feel like giving up. However, the lyrics remind listeners that even though no one else may seem to care, Jesus does care and is there to lend them support. The lines "I see your heart drowning in the mire, I feel your heart's cold now - God, set it on fire" suggest that the struggles that the listener may be going through can be overwhelming, but God can transform and restore their hearts.
Overall, the song is a message of hope and encouragement to listeners who may feel alone, discouraged, or at a loss. It reminds them to hold on to their faith, as Jesus is with them every step of the way.
