Founding members Chuck Robertson, Sascha Lazor, Todd Rosenberg, Carter Benson and James Malis started the group in high school but the band's membership has changed frequently since its inception. Drummer Todd Rosenberg left the band in 1999, Benson left the band in 2002, and bassist Mark Iversen left the band in 2006. The current lineup consists of:
* Chuck Robertson (lead vocals/rhythm guitar/primary lyricist)
* Sascha Lazor (lead guitar/banjo/primary composer),
* Keith Douglas (trumpet/backing vocals)
* Ed Hernandez (trombone)
* Brian Flenniken (drums/percussion),
* Cris Badham (bass guitar).
The band used to play under the name The Ivy League, but in 1996 they changed their name after signing to the Honest Don's Records label to avoid confusion (and potential litigation) with two prior bands that went by the same moniker. The band's debut album, Quality Soft Core, was released the following year. After the release of the album, the band was signed to Fat Mike's label Fat Wreck Chords, through which the Mad Caddies have since released 4 studio albums, an EP and a live album.

Down and Out
Mad Caddies Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
For some a sin, for him a sight for sore eyes
She don't see wicked when she meets it up close
Say nice to see you through the passenger side
Angels turning out and making their rounds
Cross yourself and pray you don't show it
Laying on her back and shaking him down
When your rags say down and out
Her talk is cheap as pretty second hand clothes
So lip service him just for the night
He feels his pockets and he checks her pulse
There's no pleasure in an overdose
Angels turning out and making their rounds
Cross yourself and pray you don't show it
Laying on her back and shaking him down
So break it some more, you take your chances on the corner
When your rags say down and out
Motel crime scene tape, everybody come see
Don't she kinda look like that girl from the magazine
Now that she's gone, now that she's gone
Will anyone remember her name
Now that she's gone, now that she's gone
I hope she meets the devil with her lipstick on
The lyrics to Mad Caddies's song, "Down and Out" describe the story of a woman who lives a low-life existence, involved in drugs and prostitution. The first verse describes her wearing a streetlight like a "halo of gold", which can be interpreted as her being under the constant glare of streetlights while working the corner. For some, her actions would be seen as a sin, but for the man in the passenger side of the car, she is a "sight for sore eyes". Despite her dangerous lifestyle, the woman doesn't see wickedness in those she meets up close, greeting them with a polite "nice to see you".
The second verse delves into the woman's low self-worth, as she gives "lip service" to men just for the night to make a living. The man she is with checks her pulse, indicating that she may be alive or possibly dealing with an overdose. The chorus speaks of angels turning out and making their rounds, implying that the woman's situation is beyond redemption, and the only thing left for her and those around her is to pray and hope for mercy. The final stanza describes the aftermath of the woman's death, as people gather to see the "motel crime scene tape" and compare her to a girl from a magazine. The final line of the song wishes her off to hell, presumably as a commentary on her tragic and sordid life.

They evolved, as all of us, they got older, their music changed, its normal, you can't be stuck in one place! You get bored.. don't blame them for an evolving style, open your mind to new things ;) The good old songs are special because they are special, if they were always doing the same we would be bored too!
