Founding members Chuck Robertson, Sascha Lazor, Todd Rosenberg, Carter Benson and James Malis started the group in high school but the band's membership has changed frequently since its inception. Drummer Todd Rosenberg left the band in 1999, Benson left the band in 2002, and bassist Mark Iversen left the band in 2006. The current lineup consists of:
* Chuck Robertson (lead vocals/rhythm guitar/primary lyricist)
* Sascha Lazor (lead guitar/banjo/primary composer),
* Keith Douglas (trumpet/backing vocals)
* Ed Hernandez (trombone)
* Brian Flenniken (drums/percussion),
* Cris Badham (bass guitar).
The band used to play under the name The Ivy League, but in 1996 they changed their name after signing to the Honest Don's Records label to avoid confusion (and potential litigation) with two prior bands that went by the same moniker. The band's debut album, Quality Soft Core, was released the following year. After the release of the album, the band was signed to Fat Mike's label Fat Wreck Chords, through which the Mad Caddies have since released 4 studio albums, an EP and a live album.

Mad Caddies Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Pull up a chair and don't be scared, you've got to play it round by round
Spin the wheel and take a hit it doesn't matter what you chose
Sou can sink your battle ship but there's a good chance you will loose
A little lady walking down the street
And she was born in a good and nice town
You think you've got what it takes to be her man
Maybe this time things will go your way
Your never going to win unless you play
Break down and take the chances, never mind the circumstances
Break down and keep on playing, roll the dice and bet it all, put the quarter in and make the call
When the odds are bad, your luck is down and you don't feel much like playing
Think about the fun you had and listen to what I'm saying
You could spend your life inside and never had no fun
Maybe things this time will go your way
You never gunna win unless you play
Breakdown and take the chances, never mind the circumstances
Breakdown keep on playing, roll the dice and bet it all
Breakdown and take the chances, never mind the circumstances
Breakdown keep on playing, roll the dice and bet it all, put a quarter in and make the call
You got to breakdown (whoaa)
Baby
