Freckles
Maddie Wilson Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Pretty girl, don't need to hide
That part of you that you don't like
Turns out it's my favourite thing about you
There's no need to feel ashamed
Of the sun-dropped kisses on your face
One day you will see them how I do

Ooh, we all got something that makes us special
Ooh, go on and own it 'cause we are golden
We all got freckles, ah

My sister thinks her nose is big
And my best friend snores just like a pig
And daddy wears a hat to hide the grey
Tall or short or thick or thin
Beauty is all relative
And that's what keeps the world spinning day by day

Ooh, we all got something that makes us special
Ooh, go on and own it 'cause we are golden
We all got freckles

Every thing around us says we're supposed to look like stars
They cover up what's beautiful to play the perfect part
Every thing around us says we're supposed to look like stars
But a pretty face is nothing with an ugly heart

Ooh, we all got something that makes us special
Ooh, go on and own it 'cause we are golden
We all got freckles, ah
We all got freckles

Pretty girl, don't need to hide
That part of you that you don't like

There's no need to feel ashamed
Of the sun-dropped kisses on your face, yeah
We all got freckles

Overall Meaning

The song Freckles by Maddie Wilson is about embracing our imperfections and uniqueness. The lyrics suggest that we should be proud of what makes us different and not hide any physical or personal flaws. The song urges listeners to view themselves and others differently and appreciate individuals for who they are. In the first verse, Maddie encourages a girl to stop hiding and feel confident about the sun-kissed freckles on her face. The chorus serves as a gentle reminder that everyone has something special, and we should embrace what makes us unique. The second verse highlights that differences exist everywhere, from physical characteristics like nose shapes to personality traits like snoring. Maddie reminds us that beauty is relative and that what makes us different is what keeps the world spinning.

The chorus repeats again, followed by the bridge that reassures listeners that they do not have to conform to society's beauty standards. There is a message of empowerment in embracing one's freckles and seeing beauty in diversity. The final repetition of the chorus drives home the idea that we all have freckles, both literally and figuratively.

Yes... we're stunning and unique beings. What a contrast it was, to listen to a talented/beautiful force on the planet this evening, after the terror event in Sweden today... Great song, message and vibe Maddie, thumbs way up :)

Maddie, you are truly someone special. The song represents you perfectly. This song means so much to me. You’ve taught all of us that β€œwe’ve all got something that makes us special”❀recently there has been a dance at our dance studio that has competed and won nationals. It is to your song, Freckles. They are all young girls who need to know this message. You’ve truly shown them that β€œa pretty girl is nothing with an ugly heart.” This song captures and encloses everything you have to share. We love you Maddie❀ your freckles make you so very special ❀

Wow. Just WOW! I am 52 yrs old, and spent many years trying to hide my freckles. I envied my friends who had beautiful brown skin because mine was pale and freckled. This song really hit my heart because deep down I know that I was created in the very image of God! He is my Abba Father God who loves me just the way I am. Thank you so much for reminding this daughter of the King just how special I am. And so are you!

I've been teased my whole life by having bad teeth, bad hair, and not as pretty as everyone, but I don't care! Sometimes I forget that it's who I'm inside that what counts, and this song just reminded me. I may not be perfect, but neither is everyone else. Im gonna live my life not caring what people think of me, because that's how I want to live it. I've been a subscriber for a while now, and my favorite song was Chelsea's Boyfriend, but this just made my day. Thank you Maddie! For reminding our world with just a simple, but beautiful song, with heart and meaning! Keep up the amazing work, because you write because you love it! πŸ’•~Steph, now, not in distress.
