Love Like Theirs
Maddie Wilson Lyrics

Lookin' at the prettiest girl in town.
First dates are always strange, a little awkard,
But it wasn't with them somehow.
Who knew that a couple months down the road
They would be on their honeymoon?
I guess when you know,
A love like theirs, oh whoa,
A love like theirs.
One can only dream of love so rare.
A love like theirs; won't you hear my prayer?
I only ask one thing from your man upstairs:
A love like theirs.
With five kids, life is messy, house is dirty,
And it's easy to just give up.
But they stuck together
And their faith got stronger
When their unborn child was lost.
Who knew that the pain wouldn't last forever?
No, not when you choose to go through it Together, yeah.
A love like theirs, oh whoa.
A love like theirs.
One can only dream of love so rare.
A love like theirs; won't you hear my prayer?
I only ask one thing from your man upstairs.
Ooh, lovers now date, change their minds,
'N lose their way.
Ooh, wanna love that lasts 'n gives me hope,
Not burn and crash.
Six thirty: twenty-eight years later,
And the kids are all growin' up.
But Daddy still looks at her like she's
Twenty years old, and he's never been
More in love.
I wanna love like, a love like theirs, oh whoa,
A love like theirs.
One can only dream of a love
So rare, yeah.
A love like theirs; won't you
Hear my prayer?
I only ask one thing from your man upstairs:
A love like theirs... theirs.
A love like theirs.
Maddie Wilsonβs Love Like Theirs is a tribute to a truly committed couple. The song opens with the memory of a first date, filled with the nervousness and self-consciousness characteristic of such an occasion. The songwriter reflects that ordinary people wouldnβt expect such a meeting to lead to a long-lasting commitment. However, the song suggests that they indeed recognized something special in their shared vulnerability, something that has kept them together for over twenty-five years. Wilson celebrates what she calls βa love like theirs,β which is, in her estimation, something rare and difficult to find.
The second verse reveals a crucial aspect of their bond: dealing with family hardships. It speaks to the loss of an unborn child that significantly affected their relationship. Through their pain, their relationship deepened as they turned to their faith rather than away from each other. Despite lifeβs unpredictable outcomes and difficulties, they managed to continue to build and sustain their love.
The bridge provides a sharp contrast between ordinary, lost love, and an enduring relationship. It highlights Wilsonβs dream of finding a love that βlastsβ and βgives hopeβ rather than fizzling out in a fiery dynamic. The song ends with a powerful note of hope, as the songwriter expresses her fervent desire to discover a βlove like theirs.β

One thing I took for granted growing up was being raised in a strong LDS family.Being a Marines I see marriages end on a daily basis. Never take for granted how lucky you were to grow up in a community that knows how to do marriage right, compared to the rest of the world.

I LOVE this song. My husband and I met when I was 19 years old. We have 4 healthy beautiful girls. Our 3rd child was lost at 20 weeks. They say a death of a child will make or break a couple. Our sons death was the hardest thing we have ever been through. If we didnt have faith and each other, Im not sure where our lives would be today. Everyday I pray to God to give each of my girls a good Christian man take support them. Its only been 8 years, but I hope that my children feel the same way you do. I pray that my husband and I are showing them what real love is and that love is every lasting. Congratulations on your big hit!!

This song is wonderful. The video is great. It shows everything I so much admire about LDS families. The unity, the love, the fact to know that families are forever, the care about each other - and all that exists at many wards. I'm sure not at all wards, it's simply impossible but at many wards, as long as the bishop and the members are able to find a good connection to each other.
