Avoiding me and my family would be a cowardly approach to the situation

You could have done the right thing
The correct course of action would have been to deal with the situation head-on and with integrity

You should have shown me compassion and told me how much you appreciate me

And that you'll miss me
You should have expressed regret for ending things and stated that you would miss me

Once again, you failed to choose a humane method of ending things
