From the beginning Madilyn displayed deep care and concern for others. By as early as age seven, she was using songwriting as a way to express the joys and sorrows she saw people go through in life.
Madilyn knew she was onto something when a woman with tears brimming in her eyes approached her after hearing one of her songs. The woman was not only touched by her performance but amazed that Madilyn had written the song herself at such a young age. Her writing has developed and continues to connect with her audience in a special way. In Madilyn’s own words, “I hope my songs are relatable and are able to touch peoples’ hearts. My goal is to make people feel something when they listen.”
And Then There Was YouTube. Madilyn’s desire to reach more people with her music hit a wall almost right away. After all she comes from a very tiny town in northern Wisconsin. YouTube was a great resource and extended her audience.
After posting a few music videos with a close friend, Madilyn courageously uploaded her first solo video in the Fall of 2009. Her submission won a cover contest held by fellow YouTuber Kata Hay. That success was all the inspiration Madilyn needed to start her own channel. In November of the same year the Madilyn Bailey channel was launched.

I was in your sights, you got me alone
You found me, you found me, you found me
I guess you didn't care, and I guess I liked that
And then I fell hard you took a step back
Without me, without me, without me
And he's long gone when he's next to me
And I realize the blame is on me
'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
'Til you put me down, oh
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
Now I'm lying on the cold hard ground
Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble
Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble
No apologies, he'll never see you cry
Pretends he doesn't know that he's the reason why
You're drowning, you're drowning, you're drowning
Now I heard you moved on from the whispers on the street
A new notch in your belt is all I'll ever be
And now I see, and now I see, now I see
He was long gone when he met me
And I realize the joke is on me, hey!
'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
'Til you put me down, oh
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
Now I'm lying on the cold hard ground
Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble
Oh, oh, trouble, trouble, trouble
And the saddest fear comes creeping in
That you never loved me or her, or anyone, or anything, yeah
'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
'Til you put me down, oh
I knew you were trouble when you walked in
So shame on me now
Flew me to places I'd never been
Now I'm lying on the cold hard ground
Oh, oh, trouble
Oh, oh, trouble, trouble
The song "I Knew You Were Trouble" by Madilyn Bailey is about a failed romantic relationship. The lyrics utilize a narrative that revives a past experience of having a partner who was toxic and manipulative. The singer recalls how they were drawn to the person despite being warned about their negative traits, and eventually got hurt because of them. The lines “'Cause I knew you were trouble when you walked / So shame on me now” emphasize the self-blame and regret that comes with falling for someone who ultimately causes pain.
The lyrics also highlight how the singer's ex-partner was emotionally unavailable and played games with their heart, leaving them feeling used and taken advantage of. The lines "And the saddest fear comes creeping in / That you never loved me or her, or anyone, or anything, yeah" express the fear of the singer, realizing that their ex-partner never truly cared for them, and that their relationship was just a meaningless game.
Overall, the song is a reflection on the feeling of falling for someone who is not good for us and the heartache that comes with it.
