River People
Madina Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I'll take your crystal ball
And make this crystal clear, that I won't stand back
And I won't drown right here
I'll never wait
I'll make a million mistakes
But to be content is to be a disgrace

they crawl in your head
They dig in your bones if you let them, they won't let go
They have no hope
They have no soul if you let them they'll take yours

I think it feels better on the other side
Cause their grass is green and your grass is diseased
Every day drowns in lethargy but to be content is to burn your way

they crawl in your head
They dig in your bones if you let them, they won't let go
They have no hope
They have no soul if you let them they'll take yours

when you die you want the world to remember you for who you really are
And when you die you want to love yourself cause you'll be all alone

they crawl in your head
They dig in your bones if you let them, they won't let go
They have no hope
They have no soul if you let them they'll take yours
They crawl in your head

Don't fear the unknown, cause you'll let them take control
So let yourself go, and let yourself go don't you let 'em take you a hold

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Madina Lake's song "River People" convey a message of hope, resilience, and the dangers of succumbing to outside forces. The first stanza starts with the singer boldly proclaiming that he won't back down or let himself be consumed by negative forces. He acknowledges that he will make mistakes but refuses to settle for being content, which he views as a disgrace. The second stanza describes how outside forces can crawl into our minds and bones if we allow them. These forces have no hope or soul and will take ours if we let them.

The third stanza suggests that it feels better on the other side since the grass is greener, but warns that being content is like slowly burning away. The "they" referred to earlier continues to infiltrate our head and bones, but we are urged not to fear the unknown and let them take control. The final stanza is a reminder that when we die, we want to be remembered for who we truly are and to love ourselves because we'll be all alone.

Overall, "River People" encourages listeners to take control of their own lives and not allow outside forces to dictate their thoughts and actions. It emphasizes the importance of self-love, resilience, and being true to oneself.

Litten Fire

@BlackReap it's only dumb when bands start to lose sight of who they are and effectively abandon the very fanbase/supports that got them that far to begin with. Sadly that happens to a lot of mainstream bands which is why I feel like some people may be scared that may happen to them.
