Strike a pose
Strike a pose
(Vogue, vogue, vogue)
(Vogue, vogue, vogue)

Look around, everywhere you turn is heartache
It's everywhere that you go (look around)
You try everything you can to escape
The pain of life that you know (life that you know)
When all else fails and you long to be
Something better than you are today
I know a place where you can get away
It's called a dance floor, and here's what it's for, so

Come on, vogue
Let your body move to the music (move to the music)
Hey, hey, hey
Come on, vogue
Let your body go with the flow (go with the flow)
You know you can do it

All you need is your own imagination
So use it that's what it's for (that's what it's for)
Go inside, for your finest inspiration
Your dreams will open the door (open up the door)
It makes no difference if you're black or white
If you're a boy or a girl
If the music's pumping it will give you new life
You're a superstar, yes, that's what you are, you know it

Come on, vogue
Let your body move to the music (move to the music)
Hey, hey, hey
Come on, vogue
Let your body go with the flow (go with the flow)
You know you can do it

Beauty's where you find it
Not just where you bump and grind it
Soul is in the music, oh
That's where I feel so beautiful
Magical, life's a ball
So get up on the dance floor

Come on, vogue
Let your body move to the music (move to the music)
Hey, hey, hey
Come on, vogue
Let your body go with the flow (go with the flow)
You know you can do it

Vogue, (Vogue)
Beauty's where you find it (move to the music)
Vogue, (Vogue)
Beauty's where you find it (go with the flow)

Greta Garbo, and Monroe
Dietrich and DiMaggio
Marlon Brando, Jimmy Dean
On the cover of a magazine
Grace Kelly, Harlow, Jean
Picture of a beauty queen
Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire
Ginger Rogers, dance on air
They had style, they had grace
Rita Hayworth gave good face
Lauren, Katherine, Lana too
Bette Davis, we love you
Ladies with an attitude
Fellows that were in the mood
Don't just stand there, let's get to it
Strike a pose, there's nothing to it

Vogue, vogue
Vogue, vogue

Oooh, you've got to
Let your body move to the music
Oooh, you've got to just
Let your body go with the flow
Oooh, you've got to

Overall Meaning

Madonna's song "Vogue" was released in 1990 and quickly became a symbol of pop culture of the early 90s. The song is a tribute to the famous dance style of the same name that originated in the 1980s, popularized in the ballroom scenes of New York City. The lyrics urge the listener to embrace their unique qualities and let go of their inhibitions by dancing on the dance floor. The iconic phrase "strike a pose" references the poses that were popularized by Vogue dancers, which were often inspired by famous Hollywood icons such as Greta Garbo, Marilyn Monroe, and Grace Kelly.

The song is also a reflection of the discrimination and prejudice faced by the LGBTQ+ community during the AIDS epidemic. The lyrics "it makes no difference if you're black or white, if you're a boy or a girl" emphasizes the inclusiveness of Vogue culture, which served as a supportive community for many LGBTQ+ individuals who were stigmatized and discriminated against for their sexual orientation.

@@sashabertold3731 At the end of the day , once again SOCIETY IS taken in by the non- reality of celebrity .

Wealth beyound our world can buy you all the material things in life you wish to devour !. ...Madonna has talent yes but not always admired nor respected.

HISTORY TELL US HOW MANY HAVE LEFT THIS LIFE EARLY DESTROYED BY THEIR OWN DEMONS AND THE REALITY OF HOW IT DOES DEVOUR THOSE WITH TROUBLED AND TORTURED SOULS.

She's created a persona for her fame and longevity and it worked.

She managed to keep a float with all the intrusion and media hype and not fallen prey to drugs-(what we know of). Fantastic .

Perhaps in private she's a different person?
May be.....

To me the WHAT YOU SEE IS WHAT YOU GET DOESN'T APPLY TO MADONNA IN MY OPINION .

GEORGE MICHAEL for me was a true example of being AUTHENTIC IN PUBLIC AS WELL AS IN PRIVATE.
This we know because talked opening about his life which he didn't need to justify to anyone at all. He did absolutely nothing wrong!!!

I DIDN'T CARE ABOUT THE VILE MEDIA, TABLOIDS ETC BECAUSE GM IN HIS INTERVIEWS and ON STAGE REMAINED TRUE TO HIMSELF AND HIS AUDIENCE.
HE DIDN'T HIDE BEHIND A FACADE AND THAT'S WHY GENUINELY, PEOPLE RESPECTED HIM AND THAT'S WHY HE POSSIBLY PASSED SO EARLY BECAUSE HE JUST COULD NOT PLAY SOCIETIES GAMES .

🎵🎶🎧🎤📀"It's a cruel world ,with so much to lose ,
but we have to learn ,
we rarely
Choose !".....👏📀🎧🎤🎵🎶

GM..RIP. 25/12/2016❤😢😇

🎵📀🎶🎤"TAKE CARE MY LOVE.....
YOU HAVE BEEN LOVED."🎵🎤📀🎧👏❤💋❤💋❤

Wise and Beautiful words from a deeply spiritual soul.

HE WASN'T TAKEN IN BY THE THE MONEY.
HE KNEW AT 22 YEARS OLD FAME WASN'T CRACKED UP TO WHAT YOU THINK IT IS. AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU STILL HAVE TO LIVE WITH YOURSELF

RESPECT TO GM XXXX 2019....still devastingly missed and loved by millions around the world!❤💕❤💕❤

My mom said that when Madonna was making the music video for this, she went out to dance clubs and invited all the best dancers there. These were all just regular people, not actors. It's pretty amazing how she took the time to recruit regular people who inspired her. This just goes to show the point of the song- anyone can pose and dance and have style! You don't have to be a celebrity to shine!

@kevinkelley3657

M.J. would often walk the streets of Los Angeles looking for talented street dancers.

@ginasousabranco5637

Before she recorded Vogue, Madonna met José Gutierrez e Luis Camacho underground ballroom dance duo, The House of Extravaganza, in a NY night club.
The other dancers were selected by casting.

Most of these dancers brought a class action lawsuit against Madonna and won.

@blankslate7491

@@danieldunlap4077 jeez, why?

@@blankslate7491 https://pagesix.com/2016/03/20/how-madonna-mothers-exploits-and-dumps-young-talent/ it's buried in this article but the gist of it is that they did not know that the movie was going to be made public and that they were not ready to be outed as gay, considering this was the early '90s and that still wasn't acceptable in mainstream society. There was only one straight male dancer in that group.
