'Cause I was always your little girl
But you should know by now
I'm not a baby
You always taught me right from wrong
I need your help, daddy please be strong
I may be young at heart
The one you warned me all about
The one you said I could do without
We're in an awful mess
And I don't mean maybe, please
Papa don't preach I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind, I'm keeping my baby, hm
I'm gonna keep my baby, hm
He says that he's going to marry me
We can raise a little family
Maybe we'll be all right
It's a sacrifice
But my friends keep telling me to give it up
Saying I'm too young, I ought to live it up
What I need right now is some good advice, please
Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind, I'm keeping my baby, hm
I'm gonna keep my baby, ooh ooh
Daddy, daddy if you could only see
Just how good he's been treating me
You'd give it some blessing right now
'Cause we are in love
We are in love (in love), so please (so)
Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
But I made up my mind, I'm keeping my baby, hm
I'm gonna keep my baby, ooh ooh
Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
Papa don't preach, I'm in trouble deep
Papa don't preach, I've been losing sleep
Papa don't preach (Oh, I'm gonna keep my baby)
Papa don't preach (Ooh)
Papa don't preach (Don't you stop loving me daddy)
Papa don't preach (I know I'm keeping my baby)
"Papa Don't Preach" is a song by Madonna that was released on June 11, 1986. It's a song about teenage pregnancy and the conflicts that arise between a daughter and her father. Madonna's character in the song is telling her father that she's pregnant and that she wants to keep the baby, but he is not happy about it. She struggles with societal and familial expectations, but ultimately decides to do what she believes is right.
The first verse establishes the relationship between the daughter and father, and the second verse sets up the conflict between the daughter and her boyfriend. The chorus of the song repeats the plea to the father to not preach and to support her decision to keep the baby. The bridge of the song includes the daughter's plea to her father to give her relationship and pregnancy his blessing.
The song is known for its controversial subject matter, as well as its catchy pop melody. It was one of Madonna's biggest hits, spending two weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It also sparked a lot of debate about teenage pregnancy and how society views it.

I am surprised you listened to Madonna in your late 30s/early 40s. My older brother and his friends were in their late 20s and they didn't care for her or most 80s pop. I was 17-18, so I was pretty much the target audience.
