Jacob Marshall and Dave Elkins began what would become Mae by writing their first song, "Embers and Envelopes", in Marshall's living room. The band signed with Tooth and Nail Records and released their first album, Destination: Beautiful, in 2003. They released their second full-length album, The Everglow, in 2005. The band toured extensively to promote it, and also performed on the Vans Warped Tour. Mae re-released The Everglow in 2006, adding three new songs and a 2-hour DVD.
Later in 2006, the band announced that they had fulfilled their contract with Tooth & Nail and signed to Capitol Records for their third full-length album. Mae began recording the album in the fall of 2006, working with producer Howard Benson (who has produced albums for Saosin, My Chemical Romance, and Relient K). It is titled Singularity and was released on August 14, 2007. On June 19, 2007, the band released their first single from the upcoming album titled "Sometimes I Can't Make It Alone".
Mae split ways with Capitol Records in 2008. The band has embarked on a year-long independent project, releasing one song every month with all proceeds going to benefit humanitarian projects of the band's choosing. The first four months were compiled into the (m)orning EP. The next four months will be released as (a)fternoon and the final four as (e)vening.
According to Elkins in a 2003 interview, while the band members are Christians, Mae is not a "Christian band".
On September 24, 2007 Mark and Rob parted ways with Mae.
The two replacement members for touring are 20-year-old Josiah Schlater on bass and Robert Smith on keyboards. Schlater and Smith are members of the band Tokyo, also from Virginia Beach.[5]Official site: http://www.whatismae.com

Bloom
Mae Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A current flies through the moonlit sky with sweet reprise
Hands open I've lost my grip
The stars are shining down on me as if to say, "your day is over"
Riding on my wave these sails are open
I've been rolling on a wind that's never been mine
And all that night I'm floating
I remember when we came together we were just a beacon for the lonely
Yeah, when I've lost my way I walked around it
Yeah, when I've found my faith I still may doubt it
Yeah, this midnight air is cold and barren
Yeah, but the bloom of hope it keeps repairing
We watched the sun set fire to the sky that day
We warmed up to so many things we never could have made
And it comes to this
When we were young the world had lent itself to us but now we owe it
All we lost it
Yeah, we've lost our way and walked around it
Yeah, we've found our faith and then unwound it
Yeah, this midnight air is cold and barren
Yeah, but the bloom of hope, it keeps repairing
I'll search for you and find you
These questions are just answers on the other side of clarity
I'll reach for you and know you
I swear this time I'll pour myself out for you until there's nothing left
Yeah, we lost our way but found it
Yeah, we will live to see it out
Oh, hearts may break to make more room
Yeah, but love will find a way to bloom
Love will find a way to bloom
Love will find a way to bloom
The lyrics to Mae's song "Bloom" paint a picture of someone who has lost their way, but still holds onto hope. The imagery of lying on one's back and watching the clouds smile while feeling the sweet reprise of a current through the moonlit sky is both peaceful and reassuring. However, this sense of comfort is short-lived, as hands open and grip is lost, and the stars seem to be shining down as if to say, "your day is over."
The second verse describes riding on a wave with open sails, suggesting a sense of freedom and control, yet also mentions being lost on a wind that is not their own. The singer is floating with other ships, likely representing a sense of camaraderie with others who are also lost. The chorus then speaks to the ups and downs of faith and hope, acknowledging that the midnight air can be cold and barren, but the bloom of hope keeps repairing.
The breakdown speaks of watching the sun set fire to the sky, and warming up to things they never thought possible. The line "when we were young the world had lent itself to us but now we owe it all we lost it" speaks to the loss of innocence and optimism that often comes with growing up. But ultimately, the chorus reminds us that love will find a way to bloom despite any losses or setbacks.
Overall, "Bloom" is a song of hope and resilience in the face of adversity. It acknowledges that life can be difficult and that losses will occur, but it encourages us to hold onto hope and have faith that love will ultimately prevail.
