Although Sansone performs on a variety of instruments, her primary focus is the unique multi-stringed hammered dulcimer, often called a melody-drum. The sound of her wooden mallets dancing across over seventy five strings of her hammered dulcimer brings a unique and haunting beauty to her music. Featured on CBS-TV "Sunday Morning" and frequently heard on National Public Radio, her new CD Wind Drift: Celtic grooves, mystic moods was highlighted on Fiona Ritchie’s The Thistle & Shamrock who said “Maggie’s music has been at the heart of a musical movement that explores rhythms and styles of music from Celtic and American roots and Maggie Sansone sets us off on a journey, and with hands across the water reveals a great variety of authentic acoustic delights." Her recordings, compositions, productions of Celtic and Christmas concerts, and collaborations with Ballet Theatre of Maryland, Teelin School of Irish Dance, Sony/BMG, Time-Life Records, XM Radio and Ken Burns PBS documentaries have drawn wide praise. She was honored to receive The ANNIE award for Performing Arts (Maryland) , and over a dozen WAMMIE nominations and awards for music instrumentalist and the Maggie’s Music recod label (Washington Area Music Association).
