Paradise
Magic! Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Once upon a time a lonely boy with vision (vision)
Heard about a little mermaid cast away (cast away)
Saw a little bitty fin and started swimming (swimming)
She disappeared with the sunlight once again (once again)

He prayed unto his father
As his lungs filled up with water
Oh won't you take me to your paradise? (I want to go)
Can I come play with you under the tide? (I want to go)
I want to swim inside your ocean eyes (I want to go)
Oh won't you take me to your paradise?

When he woke up on the dry and he saw visions (visions)
Of a life with a mermaid cast away (what a life, what a life it would be)
Couldn't tell if it was love or just impatience (patience)
Headed back with the black sand against the waves (against the waves)

And there she wasn't cut up
And with all his strength he called her

Oh won't you take me to your paradise? (I want to go)
Can I come play with you under the tide? (I want to go)
I want to swim inside your ocean eyes (I want to go)
Oh won't you take me to your paradise?

Please don't drift away
Please don't drift away
Please don't drift away
Please don't drift away
Please don't drift away
Please don't drift away

So take me, oh won't you take me to your paradise? (I want to go)
Can I come play with you under the tide? (I want to go)
I want to swim inside your ocean eyes (I want to go)
Oh won't you take me to your paradise?

Oh won't you take me to your paradise? (I want to go)
I've got to be with you under the white (I want to go)
Oh won't you take me to your paradise? (I want to go)
I've got to be with you
I've got to be with you
(I want to go)
(I want to go)
Paradise, paradise, paradise, paradise (I want to go)
Paradise, paradise, paradise, paradise

Paradise, paradise, paradise, paradise
Paradise, paradise, paradise, paradise

Overall Meaning

In "Paradise" by MAGIC!, the lyrics tell the story of a boy who longs for escape, adventure, and ultimately love. The lonely boy discovers a mermaid who has been cast away and is immediately enamored by her. He sees her little fin and begins to swim towards her, but she disappears as the sunlight fades. The boy then prays to his father as he begins to drown, pleading to be taken to paradise.

However, when the boy wakes up on dry land, he remains fixated on the mermaid and heads back towards the shore, battling against the waves. When he reaches her, he realizes that he does not want to be separated from her and begs her to take him to her paradise. The song's chorus repeats this plea, as the boy desperately seeks to escape his ordinary life and find a new one with the mermaid in her paradise under the sea.

The song speaks to the universal human desire for escape, for the unknown, and for the possibility of love. It blends the fantastical with the human, offering a narrative that is both grounded in reality and full of magic, all brought to life through the imagery and emotion conjured up by the lyrics.
