Apollo
Magicman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

It's not beneath me when I say
You're not so different now
Stop this thing again and see
But ever since the day I started learning
I know that you're the one that I've been dreaming about

Won't you take my hand like I know you will
When you're sparkling madly in the moonlight
Don't you understand that I need you still
When you're sparkling madly in the moonlight

I need you to take up
Or swear that I will come back from this place
We're falling asleep in the backseat of your back
We'll wake up in the snow that'll bury all our troubles

Won't you take my hand like I know you will
When you're sparkling madly in the moonlight
Don't you understand that I need you still
When you're sparkling madly in the moonlight

So stand by, someday we'll call out
And hold it together
So stand by, someday we'll call out
Can't you hold it together

Won't you take my hand like I know you will
When you're sparkling madly in the moonlight

Don't you understand that I need you still
When you're sparkling madly in the moonlight

Overall Meaning

The song "Apollo" by Magic Man is a beautifully written love song about the desire to be with someone who you believe is special and unlike anyone else. The opening lyrics, "It's not beneath me when I say, you're not so different now" convey that the singer recognizes the humanity in the one they love, despite the fact that they may seem larger than life. The following lines, "stop this thing again and see, but ever since the day I started learning, I know that you're the one that I've been dreaming about" suggest that the singer has stopped to reflect on their feelings for the person and realizes that they are exactly what they have been searching for.

The chorus of the song is a plea for the person to take the singer's hand and acknowledge that they too feel the same way. There is a sense of urgency in the lyrics "When you're sparkling madly in the moonlight" which seems to suggest that there may not be another chance to make a move. The final verse suggests that the two have become closer and are experiencing shared experiences that bring them together. "We're falling asleep in the backseat of your back, we'll wake up in the snow that'll bury all our troubles" is a metaphor for finding peace and happiness within each other's company despite the struggles that may be going on in the outside world. The repetition of "So stand by, someday we'll call out, and hold it together" emphasizes the idea that the two are each other's support systems and will always be there for each other no matter what.
