After the Rain
Magnum Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Why don't you wait
Before you decide?
There's no need to run
Let love be your guide

So stay
Don't tell me you might
I need to believe
You'll be here tonight

'Cause I'm here and I'll just be
Waiting, hoping, praying

After the rain there's a river of fire
You're lost on the road to nowhere
'Cause after the rain comes the thrill of desire
You turn around, no one's there

Oh, deep
Inside everyone
There's something we need
The right to belong

But I'm here and I'll just be
Waiting, hoping, praying

After the rain there's a river of fire
You're lost on the road to nowhere
'Cause after the rain comes the thrill of desire
You turn around, no one's there

You tell me your troubles and I'll tell you more
Bad times, you're the pretender
I'll tell you something that I can't ignore
Sad times, what's to remember?

After the rain
After the rain there's a river of fire
You're lost on the road to nowhere
After the rain
'Cause after the rain comes the thrill of desire
You turn around, no one's there

After the rain
After the rain there's a river of fire
You're lost on the road to nowhere
After the rain
'Cause after the rain comes the thrill of desire
You turn around, no one's there

After the rain
Said after the rain

Overall Meaning

The song “After the Rain” by Magnum is a ballad with a hopeful message that encourages the listener to wait and not give up on something, particularly love, so easily. The lyrics urge the person to stay and be patient, to let love guide them and not to rush into a decision before giving it a chance. The line “after the rain there’s a river of fire” could be interpreted in different ways. It could represent the heat and passion that ignites after a difficult situation like a storm, or it could also represent the danger and chaos that can arise after a crisis. The song emphasizes the importance of connection and belonging, and how people need to support each other during difficult times. I never heard of this band until I watched a rock festival on Palladia last night. I heard a great song called "All England's Eyes". I made a point to seek out some more of their songs and now I find this great song too! This band should be WAY bigger IMHO. Excellent songs and vocals. I'm a fan!

I wish I was you, then I would have all those years of Magnum's back catalogue to discover.

This track makes me weep for joy every time I hear it. One of the very greatest tracks, from one of the very greatest albums, by the greatest unknown band on the planet. How the hell can it be that no professional marketing company has ever been capable of showing the world how great Magnum really are ? What do they have to do to get recognised if songs as perfect and timeless as this are not enough ?

Thank God for Magnum.

One of the great mysteries of life, Why aren't Magnum huge, Loved their music since the early 80's, A Story Tellers Night is about the best AOR albums ever released but it only sold moderately, there is no justice.

I've only been listening to Magnum since "Princess Alice and the Broken Arrow" and have really enjoyed everything they've released to date. It's quite possible though that "On the 13th Day" is their best release yet. I have nothing but respect for Catley and company. Awesome job guys!
