1) Magnum is an English hard rock band. They were formed in Birmingham by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter, RIP) and Bob Catley (vocals) in order to appear as the resident band at the Rum Runner nightclub in the city. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain.
Magnum's most significant early success was Chase the Dragon in 1982, which reached number 17 in the UK Albums Chart. It included several songs that would become mainstays of the band's live set, notably "Soldier of the Line", "Sacred Hour" and "The Spirit". On a Storyteller's Night gave the band its breakthrough in Europe, and achieved a Gold certification in the United Kingdom. The band's 1986 album Vigilante represented a further move towards the mainstream before the band achieved their commercial peak in 1988 when they entered the UK Top Ten for the first time with the album Wings of Heaven, which reached number five and featured three Top 40 singles, "Days of No Trust", "Start Talking Love" and "It Must Have Been Love". It was followed by Goodnight L.A., which was produced by Keith Olsen and reached number nine in the UK Album Chart in 1990. It produced another Top 40 single for the band, "Rockin' Chair".
In 1995, Clarkin announced Magnum's split; however, Clarkin and Catley continued working together, now under the name Hard Rain, until 1999. Magnum reformed in 2001 and has enjoyed late-career commercial success. Their most recent album, The Monster Roars, was released in January 2022.

If I Could Live Forever
Magnum Lyrics

Not a word has passed between
And before I get much older
I know if I could live forever
Nothing would change to better
Nothing would change at all
You gave me your love to last me forever, I know
Now the world did sell so cheaply
For the price of just a kiss
Why should anyone believe me?
I know if I could live forever
Nothing would change to better
Nothing would change at all
You gave me your love to last me forever, I know
You gave me your love to last me wherever I go
Friday night is almost over
Not a word has passed between
And before I get much older
If again he should embrace you
Would you follow him or stay?
Could you take what you would go through?
I know if I could live forever
Nothing would change to better
Nothing would change at all
You gave me your love to last me forever, I know
You gave me your love to last me wherever I go
Magnum's "If I Could Live Forever" is a romantic ballad that speaks to the desire for eternal love and commitment. The lyrics are introspective and contemplative, exploring the fear of losing a loved one and the uncertainty that comes with it. The song opens with the singer reflecting on the passing of time, and the silence that has come between them and their lover. They express an understanding that time is fleeting and they long for a love that will last forever. They recognize that even with endless time, nothing would change for the better or worse as they have been given a love that will endure.
The second verse speaks to the fragility of love and how easily it can be sold short. The singer acknowledges that even though their love is strong, it's a fragile thing that can be taken for granted by others. They express a fear of not being believed if they were to profess their commitment, wondering if just a kiss is enough to prove it.
The final verse is a plea to their love to remain true and committed, with a hint of jealousy towards a potential rival. They wonder what would happen if their significant other were to embrace someone else, and question whether they could survive the heartbreak. The chorus repeats the idea that their love is enough to last a lifetime, and they are grateful to have it to carry them through whatever comes their way.
Overall, the song explores the desire for eternal love and commitment, and the uncertainty and fear that come with it. The lyrics are introspective and reflective, with a sense of vulnerability that makes the song feel deeply personal.
