1) Magnum is an English hard rock band. They were formed in Birmingham by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter, RIP) and Bob Catley (vocals) in order to appear as the resident band at the Rum Runner nightclub in the city. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain.
Magnum's most significant early success was Chase the Dragon in 1982, which reached number 17 in the UK Albums Chart. It included several songs that would become mainstays of the band's live set, notably "Soldier of the Line", "Sacred Hour" and "The Spirit". On a Storyteller's Night gave the band its breakthrough in Europe, and achieved a Gold certification in the United Kingdom. The band's 1986 album Vigilante represented a further move towards the mainstream before the band achieved their commercial peak in 1988 when they entered the UK Top Ten for the first time with the album Wings of Heaven, which reached number five and featured three Top 40 singles, "Days of No Trust", "Start Talking Love" and "It Must Have Been Love". It was followed by Goodnight L.A., which was produced by Keith Olsen and reached number nine in the UK Album Chart in 1990. It produced another Top 40 single for the band, "Rockin' Chair".
In 1995, Clarkin announced Magnum's split; however, Clarkin and Catley continued working together, now under the name Hard Rain, until 1999. Magnum reformed in 2001 and has enjoyed late-career commercial success. Their most recent album, The Monster Roars, was released in January 2022.

Magnum Lyrics

You wouldn't believe your ears
Out of the dawning skies
Suddenly it appeared
I wonder why they're here, do they understand?
Seems they will destroy someone's master plan
Looking across the sea
Wondering what they'll find
Wondering what's at hand
Breathing in the air, feel the falling rain
Getting all prepared for the final day
From out of the crimson air
Suddenly came the fire
Look at the flaming sky
See how the flames grow higher
Alien, your day this not to be
All the people say ?let the world be free?
You wouldn't believe your eyes
You wouldn't believe your ears
Into the dawning skies
Suddenly disappeared
Set their course for Mars, leave the world behind
Tracking through the stars, find a different sign
The lyrics to Magnum's song Invasion describe a scene of invasion by extraterrestrial beings on planet Earth. The first two lines of the song suggest disbelief and shock at the sudden appearance of the aliens in the sky. The singer then ponders why the aliens have come and whether they understand the potential consequences of their arrival. The lyrics suggest that the aliens' presence may jeopardize someone's "master plan" and foreshadows potential conflict.
The song then shifts to a broader perspective looking at the entire planet from the sea to the land. The singer wonders what the aliens hope to find, and what will happen during their visit. The lyrics evoke a sense of tension and foreboding as the singer prepares for the "final day." Suddenly, without warning, fire breaks out, filling the sky with flames. The people call for freedom, signaling their determination to resist any threat to their world.
Finally, the song ends with the aliens leaving for Mars, suggesting that their arrival was just a temporary event. They leave behind a changed world and a sense of uncertainty about what lies ahead. Overall, Magnum's Invasion is a powerful and evocative song that explores themes of alien invasion, conflict, and the resiliency of the human spirit.
