1) Magnum is an English hard rock band. They were formed in Birmingham by Tony Clarkin (guitar, songwriter, RIP) and Bob Catley (vocals) in order to appear as the resident band at the Rum Runner nightclub in the city. Magnum have undergone several changes in personnel over the years; however, the core of Catley and Clarkin remain.
Magnum's most significant early success was Chase the Dragon in 1982, which reached number 17 in the UK Albums Chart. It included several songs that would become mainstays of the band's live set, notably "Soldier of the Line", "Sacred Hour" and "The Spirit". On a Storyteller's Night gave the band its breakthrough in Europe, and achieved a Gold certification in the United Kingdom. The band's 1986 album Vigilante represented a further move towards the mainstream before the band achieved their commercial peak in 1988 when they entered the UK Top Ten for the first time with the album Wings of Heaven, which reached number five and featured three Top 40 singles, "Days of No Trust", "Start Talking Love" and "It Must Have Been Love". It was followed by Goodnight L.A., which was produced by Keith Olsen and reached number nine in the UK Album Chart in 1990. It produced another Top 40 single for the band, "Rockin' Chair".
In 1995, Clarkin announced Magnum's split; however, Clarkin and Catley continued working together, now under the name Hard Rain, until 1999. Magnum reformed in 2001 and has enjoyed late-career commercial success. Their most recent album, The Monster Roars, was released in January 2022.

This Heart
Magnum Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
There`s not a trace that you know well
An empty space, a broken spell
No lesson, no possession
Hypnotic trance, eclectric smile
Worked out advance, night last awhile
Some secret plan, complete denial
No questions, all deception
There`s no way of knowin`the truth
I can`t stop
CHORUS:
This heart of mine
Now that it`s over This heart of mine
Says it`s the end
This heart of mine
Turnin` much colder
This heart of mine
Is hard to defend
I can address & I can heal
You can`t possess the way I feel
I might be blessed with somethin' real
Too painful, your black angel
There`s no way of knowin`the way I`ll be goin'
There`s no way of knowin`the truth
I can`t stop
CHORUS
Now you`ve been told
Your body not soul
Gets you more than you could need
Only you found out
You`re losin` control
And you never will succeed
There`s no way of knowin`the way way`ll be goin'
There`s no way of knowin`the truth
I can`t stop
2 X CHORUS

The lyrics of Magnum's song "This Heart" are about a person whose heart has been broken by someone they loved. The singer talks about how he looks on the outside - with a face that doesn't show how he feels inside. He refers to the person who broke his heart as a "black angel" and talks about how his heart has turned "much colder" and how it's "hard to defend." He also speaks of a "secret plan" and "eclectic smile" that hints at the deception he has faced.
The singer opens up by saying the person looking at his face wouldn't know that his heart is broken. The phrase "empty space, broken spell" suggests that he is not just devastated but possibly feeling violated by his breakup. He further talks about how he feels lost, and he doesn't know which road his life will take. The phrase "no possession, all deception" indicates how he feels about his past relationship. This suggests that the person he loved was more interested in material things, rather than the love that he had to give.
The chorus repeats how he feels destroyed by the end of his relationship. He talks about how it's hard to defend and turn the feelings between people when love is hard to come by, understandably for him. The end of this heart-wrenching song speaks about how he's been told his body and not his soul is important. He highlights how he is not in control and how he'll "never succeed," suggesting he may never fully recover.
