From 2002 to 2006, Magnus Rising wrote, performed, and recorded original music before audiences across the province of Newfoundland. Battling adversity, including the loss of $20,000 worth of musical equipment in a fire at their rehearsal space in 2004, Magnus Rising developed their craft and earned their reputation as a first-rate live rock act. During that five year period, Magnus Rising performed over 100 gigs and released their first EP, Magnus Rising, in 2005.
After testing the waters with a performance before record executives at the Hard Rock café in Montreal, Magnus Rising relocated in June of 2006 to Vancouver, BC. Within a year, they had begun recording their first major studio album, Counting the Numbers, at the Factory Studios. Counting was produced by Doug Mix and released independently in December, 2007. Plans for a 2008 cross-Canadian summer tour are presently underway.

You always did what was needed
Others lives to be changed
Never stopped you from proceeding
Cut it off at the source
And stop the bleeding
If it had to be done
It’s in your face
It’s in your smile
It’s in your eyes
Your handshake, dollar signs, all of the lies
It’s in your walk
It’s in your thoughts
It’s in your voice
Big contracts, dotted lines, more dollar signs
When you’re in control
It’s not the families you’re feeding
It’s maximizing that profit
Or it maybe you leaving
You always took what you could get
From a very young age
There’s always someone like you behind you
It’s just a matter of days
Stepping up in this world
Relations severed
Stepping up in this world
Climbing this ladder
Cold hearted or heartless, young or old
Business is business
Everyone pays the toll
Cold hearted or heartless, bought or sold
When business is business
Everyone plays their roll
The Magnus Rising’s song Business Man, the lyrics suggest the negative side of greed, power, and materialism that dominates in the world of business. The first verse implies that the singer of the song is a man who does everything that is required to achieve his goals, even if it involves harming or changing other people's lives in the process. He is not easily deterred and always acts on his ambitions. The second verse of the song explains that his desire for profit and success are apparent in every aspect of his life, from his facial expressions, gesture to the way he walks, thinks and speaks. His soul purpose is to maximize profits and attain success through any means necessary.
The third verse suggests that the singer does not care about the consequences of their actions, whether it is the families they are feeding, or the people they are harming. The focus is on profits and self-gain. The song implies that to become successful in the business world, you must have a cold heart and a lack of empathy. The chorus suggests that in the world of business, everyone has to pay their dues, which are reflected in the cutthroat competition that is present.
