Their first album Sparky's Bomb School (2000 PPQ) earned such enviable plaudits as:
"Sample heaven, modern classic, must have, quite perfect." (Loaded)
"Nice'n'sleazy", "Rude" (Esquire)
Mains then disappeared briefly into the night to regenerate and regroup, swooping in unannounced like silent assassins on a variety of compilation albums from Acid Jazz to Dope on Plastic before heralding in a new age with the Turn On LP on Tummy Touch in 2002.
"It's like being trapped in Space Invaders." (Record Collector)
"It's the strobed-out kind of deep-pile groovery that'd encourage even the most conservative listeners to get down on the nearest sheepskin rug." (NME)
The Turn On album and singles like Swedish Girls, were the result of Mains Ignition developing from the DJ based group of Sparky's Bomb School to a live band.
Well received live XFM and London dates, and a support on Pulp's Farewell Tour soon beckoned for Mains, as did James Mullord (pre Babyshambles), a friend and working at 1234 records, who became their manager.
Easy to look at yet so hard to define, having enveloped in their warm embrace over the years artists and collaborators as diverse as Tom Vek, Objects of Desire, Towers of London, The Libertines, Gavin Turk, Gary Hume, Sam Taylor-Wood, Whitey, Little 'Ans, Happiness Stan's, PPQ, 1234 Records and Tummy Touch. On a daily basis HQ's outreach program works to keep all these characters off the streets; people who by their own admission would be a danger to society if they didn't express themselves through Mains Ignition:

Testify
Mains Ignition Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I wanna testify
Got a job a roof overhead don't live fancy but my family's fed
I wanna testify
Got my strength and I got my health you can't buy that with fame or wealth And
I just wanna testify
I get overwhelmed with thankfulness for things I have received
More than fame or wealth I feel the spirit inside movin' me
And I just wanna testify
I got a joy that comes from within, deep in my soul I feel so content
And I just wanna testify
I searched high and I searched low, to find the answers only Heaven holds
And I just wanna testify
Too much joy, can't keep it to myself, I feel the need to tell somebody else
And I just wanna testify
Gifts of love that we all need, are provided if we only plant the seeds
And I wanna plant the seeds and testify
I just wanna testify
Feelin' light enough to fly
Lift your voice up to the sky
Come on join in and don't be shy
Get on your feet and testify
Feelin' light enough to fly
Lift your voice up to the sky
Come on join in and don't be shy
The lyrics of "Testify" by Mains Ignition express gratitude for the simple blessings in life that often go overlooked. The chorus "I just wanna testify" emphasizes the desire to share this gratitude with others. The song opens with the singer waking up and feeling thankful for another day, then goes on to list the things in life that bring true happiness: a job, a home, family, health, and an internal sense of contentment. They describe feeling moved by the spirit within them and feeling a need to share that joy with others. Overall, the song encourages listeners to look beyond material possessions and find happiness in the present moment.
The repeating chorus, "Feelin' light enough to fly/Lift your voice up to the sky/Come on join in and don't be shy" serves as an invitation to listeners to join in this spirit of gratitude and testify to their own experiences. The upbeat, energetic music amplifies this sense of joy and celebration.
This song reminds us of the importance of being grateful for the little things and not taking them for granted. It encourages us to speak out and share with others what we are thankful for. It is a call to focus on the present moment and not be weighed down by material possessions, but to find true joy within ourselves.
