Kaleidoscopes
Major League Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I remember the night, the scenes stuck in my head
Summer air was burning and I couldn't catch my breath
I drove alone all night and spent the day in bed
And I could almost feel my lungs caving in my chest
Moving on
We talked all night long
Till the sun came up
We kept moving on
I close my eyes, in an instant I feel lost
Have I lost my mind or is my speed and timing off
I feel the wheel slipping from my hands
Deafening kaleidoscope between the sky and ground
Lights and sound
The tires scream so loud
Now I'm upside down
Under lights and sound
We cut through yards in the neighborhood you said
This felt more right than it ever should
You took me through the fields you use to lay and jumped the fence to get away
Just look around
Only if time slowed down

Things wouldn't feel so bad
If you look around

Overall Meaning

The song "Kaleidoscopes" by Major League speaks of the memory of a night that was filled with excitement, confusion, and a sense of lost. The first stanza reminisces about a particular summer night as the singer drives alone all night long but still spends the day in bed. The imagery of the sun burning in the summer air provides insight into the singer's feelings of being suffocated and overwhelmed, as if their lungs are caving in their chests. The chorus describes a feeling of being lost, with the singer questioning whether they have lost their mind or if their speed and timing is off. The line "Deafening kaleidoscope between the sky and ground" provides a vivid image of the chaos and confusion that the singer experiences. The second stanza talks about the singer being taken through fields and jumping fences, indicating a level of carefree abandon and freedom. Looking around slows time down, allowing the character to absorb and feel the moment more intensely.

The song is about experiencing moments that leave indelible marks on one's mind - moments that may be confusing, chaotic, and even distressing but that ultimately shape who we are. The singer is battling with overwhelming emotions, experiencing a sense of loss of control and direction, but ultimately accepting the moment for what it is. The use of the kaleidoscope metaphor perfectly summarizes the feeling of being lost and overwhelmed but also realizing that every moment of life is unique and can be appreciated if viewed from the right perspective.
