Una Voce Poco Fa
Malena Ernman Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Una voce poco fa
qui nel cor mi risuonò;
Il mio cor ferito è già,
e Lindor fu che il piagò.
Sì, Lindoro mio sarà;
lo giurai, la vincerò.
Il tutor ricuserà,
Io l'ingegno aguzzerò.
Alla fin s'accheterà
e contenta io resterò
Sì, Lindoro mio sarà;
Lo giurai, la vincerò.
Io sono docile, son rispettosa,
sono obbediente, dolce, amorosa;
mi lascio reggere, mi fo guidar.
Ma se mi toccano dov'è il mio debole

sarò una vipera e cento trappole
prima di cedere farò giocar.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to "Una voce poco fa" from Malena Ernman's song are a part of the opera Il Barbiere di Siviglia (The Barber of Seville) composed by Gioachino Rossini. The song is sung by the character Rosina, a young and clever woman who has fallen in love with Lindoro and is determined to win him over.

In the first verse, Rosina expresses how her heart was touched by a voice that resonated within her. She reveals that her heart is already wounded, and it was Lindoro who caused the pain. Despite this, she proclaims that Lindoro will be hers and she will win him over. She swears that she will sharpen her wit and intelligence to overcome any obstacles that may come her way.

In the second verse, Rosina describes herself as obedient, respectful, and loving. She allows herself to be guided and directed by others. However, she warns that if anyone touches her weak spot, she will become as dangerous as a viper and set numerous traps before surrendering.

These lyrics showcase Rosina's determination and strength of character. She is willing to fight for the love she desires and is not afraid to use her intelligence and wit to achieve her goal. It highlights her transformation from a docile and submissive woman to a fierce and independent one.

Her coloratura is like a fast plucking guitar string, such flexibility and ease of effort. her voice is fully smoothed out and clearer than any other mezzo-soprano I've heard

A high E??? For a mezzo?? That's rare....nice job!

@Imnotafanofheatgetit

Are you sure she may not be actually a contralto "self-identifying" as a mezzo? She has a VERY masculine tone and deep singing voice.

@raigekimaru

@nicosupersex there are small differences. a mezzo's range might be about a minor 3rd lower than a sopranos and a contralto maybe a step below that. the main difference is in passaggio. sopranos have a long middle register, mezzos transition from chest to middle a little higher and from middle to head voice a little lower. contraltos have the longest chest register and a short middle register
