Un Destino Distante
Maler Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tra fuochi e luci mariachi ubriachi
occhi d'allocchi come i miei occhi

Overall Meaning

The song "Un Destino Distante" by Maler is a poignant ballad about lost love and the loneliness that follows. The opening lines of the verse set a scene of a festive atmosphere, with “Mariachi” bands and “fuochi e luci” (fires and lights) illuminating the night. The singer is lost in thought, and his eyes are “d’allocchi” (dazed), like the people around him. This brings to mind a carnival or party where everyone is having fun except for him. At this moment, the guitar takes over, and the singer is transported into a world of music and beer.

The chorus repeats the phrase “una canzone qualunque” (just another song) and “un destino distante” (a distant destiny) to convey the sense of helplessness and despair that comes with lost love. The singer sees himself as “un perdente” (a loser) who has lost everything by losing his love. He addresses his former partner, whom he sees as “una qualunque” (just anyone), suggesting that she was not significant to him, or perhaps he tries to convince himself. He paints a picture of her caressing his wounded heart, providing some comfort but acknowledging the harsher reality of their past.

The second verse continues with the theme of loneliness and the search for companionship. The singer talks about people who know him when he is in trouble or difficulty, and the image of the Sierra Madre, a barren and desolate mountain range appears. It is a metaphor for his mental state, which is dark and gloomy. The end of the verse talks about night and the stars, with “una per una” (one by one) going out, almost like a metaphor for his lost love.
