A native of Tulsa, 16-year-old Malese Jow first developed her vocal and performance skills at charity benefits and local talent competitions. At 7 she gained valuable stage experience when she was chosen to sing with Rodney Lay and the Wild West, a group of retired country musicians from the television show "Hee Haw". Malese landed the gig beating out 75 adult women, and the "Sweetheart of the Opry" opened for such legendary acts as Brenda Lee, George Jones, Ty Herndon, Ray Price, and many others. Soon thereafter, the head of McDonald's advertising heard Malese's voice, and offered her the opportunity to appear in several world-wide McDonald's/Disney television commercials and radio jingles.
In the spring of 2000, 9-year-old Malese and her family moved to Los Angeles for pilot season. In 2002 she competed on Ed McMahon's "Next Big Star" on PAX-TV and won 4 episodes against stiff competition. Her vocal abilities left an impact on Mr. McMahon, and he personally invited her on tour with his variety show in Branson, MO later that year.
In 2003 Malese began to focus more on her acting career, and by the fall she had landed the role of funky and fashionable "Geena Fabiano" for Nickelodeon's hit show "Unfabulous". Unfabulous finished principal photography of their 3rd and final season in 2006, which gave Malese the opportunity to look to at other projects outside of Nickelodeon's realm. Soon thereafter, she booked a supporting lead role in the live-action adaptation of "Bratz - The Movie", playing the role of "Quinn" in the preppy/popular group of high school girls. As for upcoming projects, she's currently the front-runner for two separate developing shows which will begin principal photography in May/June of 2007. She will also be the subject of a back-to-school editorial for "Sweet 16" magazine, and has just completed her vocal demo CD, which is currently being shopped to major labels.

Turn Away
Malese Jow Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Can you take it, can you take it away
But I don't think that, I don't think that you can
Handle it that way, my heart is wrapped in caution tape,
Fragile, handle with care. My empty hand is reachin out
And only touchin, touchin air but you always manage to
Make me trust, I'll catch you when you fall
(I'll catch you when you fall)
Don't say it, if you don't follow through it hurts
Make no love the multiple emotions of hurt
Now I'm gaurdin my heart cause when you get this
Part, you know I gotta turn away. When I'm vunerable
And gullible I gotta turn away.
Your repeatin, repeatin history
It's like deja vu, when it slaps your face with reality,
Like you to fall back into those eyes
Just counting whatcha did to me, the repeated hurt,
Cycle of life, heart gotta beating
But you always manage to make me trust,
I'll catch you when you fall
(I'll catch you when you fall)
Don't say it, if you don't follow through it hurts
Make no love, the multiple emotions of hurt,
Now I'm gaurdin my heart cause when you get this
Part, you know I gotta turn away. When I'm vunerable
And gullible I gotta turn away.
It's like clock work and your back again
Begging for a millionth chance cause tell me that you'll clutch(?)me
Don't say it, if you don't follow through it hurts
Make no love the multiple emotions of hurt
Now I'm gaurdin my heart cause when you get this
Part, you know I gotta turn away. When I'm vunerable
And gullible I gotta turn away.
Yeah! Yeah...
Malese Jow's song "Turn Away" is a heartfelt declaration of a past love that she can no longer trust. The lyrics describe her caution and guardedness towards her former flame, who has a history of letting her down. Jow sings about the fragility of her heart which is wrapped in caution tape and handled with care, showing that she has been hurt before and is now cautious about who she allows in.
The chorus urges the ex-lover to not promise anything unless he follows through, recognizing that false promises only create more hurt, and for that reason, she has to turn away from him. Jow is aware of her vulnerability and gullibility when it comes to love, and she knows that the only way to protect herself from being hurt again is by turning away from anyone who cannot fulfill their promises. The lyrics of the song paint a picture of the singer's struggle to trust and love again after a relationship has let her down.
