The Other Side
Malevolence Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Perseverance or just fate
Recalculate to set things straight
Depraved in darkness and terrified
Of the other side
Of the life I thought we made
Broken promises
No shame
Choking realisation of reality
My whole soul torn from me

A burden that I cannot hold
Temptation burn my soul
I watched you fall
You let me fail
You let me become frail

Far too many times
We did not see what has made us blind
They say all wounds will heal with time
But I've been waiting
I open my eyes, I cannot see
I fill my lungs, I cannot breathe
They say all wounds will heal with time
But I still feel mine
And now I feel no more

Hallucinations in the night
Watching the love between us die
Still hear your voice in my mind
Still see your face when I close my eyes
I'll always be waiting by your side

Far too many times
We did not see what has made us blind
They say all wounds will heal with time
But I've been waiting
I open my eyes I cannot see
I fill my lungs I cannot breathe
They say all wounds will heal with time
But I still feel mine

Some are troubles all your own
Some are paths we walk alone

No more can I be in silence surrounding me
In silence surrounding me

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Malevolence's song The Other Side depict a painful realization and acceptance of a failed relationship. The singer is struggling to come to terms with the fact that the life they thought they had built with their partner is not real, and that they have been deceived. The lines "Of the life I thought we made/Broken promises/No shame" convey a sense of betrayal and disillusionment. The singer is also grappling with the burden of the failed relationship, as they acknowledge that they cannot hold on to it any longer. The lines "A burden that I cannot hold/Temptation burns my soul" suggest that the singer is tempted to hold on to the relationship despite its failure, but they know that it is not feasible.

The lyrics also touch upon the theme of time and healing, as the singer wonders if the wounds inflicted by the failed relationship will ever heal. However, they are still suffering from the pain and trauma of the betrayal, as indicated by the lines "But I've been waiting/I open my eyes, I cannot see/I fill my lungs, I cannot breathe/They say all wounds will heal with time/But I still feel mine". The lines "Some are troubles all your own/Some are paths we walk alone" suggest that the pain and trauma of the failed relationship are unique to the singer, and they must navigate it alone. The overarching theme of the song seems to be one of acceptance and resilience in the face of a painful truth.

Malevolence is the exact band that Metalheads have been asking for for the last 20 years, good vocals, excellent (tasteful!) musicianship, a fresh combination of influences, actual SONGS not just riff salad
