Alongside with Green River, formed in 1983, they were one of the first grunge bands ever, first appearing along with other notable seattle-based bands like Soundgarden, Green River, The Melvins on the compilation release Deep Six. This release, as mentioned, were many of these bands first ever released songs.
In 2002 Kevin Wood and teamed up with Mother Love Bone drummer Greg Gilmore to record the 'Her Eyes' Cd.
In 2005 Kevin Wood teamed up with Regan Hagar and Shawn Smith to record the Malfunkshun Monument Cd. It was released in 2006 on wammybox records wammybox
In 2010 Universal Music released 'Malfunkshun the Andy Wood Story' a documentary featuring interviews and footage from Malfunkshun's early days. Included in the box set was a re - release of Return to Olympus and a collection of Andrew's Solo material.
In 2011 Jeff Loftis and Mike Stone joined the band and began recording and playing out.
Malfunkshun is currently making music and touring.
In 2021, the band released the EP Glow, marking the band's first recordings since the death of Andrew Wood.

A live version of this song showed up on YouTube recently. Really amazing the stuff these guys put together at such a young age. No wonder Stone Gossard wanted Andy as a front man.

Yup, Stone said "I want to be anywhere this guy is"... Stone loved Andy. His death affected Stone so much that when Pearl Jam was formed he felt relieved. He wanted something brand new and not related to MLB or the drugs.

I live less than 5 miles from where he grew up. His song with Chris about wishing for endless summer, always fearing when it would rain again, and this song well, hits. Its Sept 1st in Washington, I could be cleaner than ever before, in my single room luxury bed but unless insurance can pay for the rain to skip this year, im afraid too. That's the worst part of being happy. Being terrified of when you wont be again. Don't do drugs kids. But do what? Play outside? No it's dark cold and you have homework. Play with your friends? No, you're all infectious germ carriers stay away from each other. Do what? Sports, nope, movies, nope, get a massage, nope, hair cut? DO WHAT? MY NAME IS PAIN and you offer me no other.
