Alongside with Green River, formed in 1983, they were one of the first grunge bands ever, first appearing along with other notable seattle-based bands like Soundgarden, Green River, The Melvins on the compilation release Deep Six. This release, as mentioned, were many of these bands first ever released songs.
In 2002 Kevin Wood and teamed up with Mother Love Bone drummer Greg Gilmore to record the 'Her Eyes' Cd.
In 2005 Kevin Wood teamed up with Regan Hagar and Shawn Smith to record the Malfunkshun Monument Cd. It was released in 2006 on wammybox records wammybox
In 2010 Universal Music released 'Malfunkshun the Andy Wood Story' a documentary featuring interviews and footage from Malfunkshun's early days. Included in the box set was a re - release of Return to Olympus and a collection of Andrew's Solo material.
In 2011 Jeff Loftis and Mike Stone joined the band and began recording and playing out.
Malfunkshun is currently making music and touring.
In 2021, the band released the EP Glow, marking the band's first recordings since the death of Andrew Wood.

In page 89 of Kurt Cobain: Journals, there’s a list that Kurt wrote of some of his favorite songs, and this was one of the songs that he listed. Glad to know that he liked Malfunkshun, since he didn’t like Mother Love Bone very much. I wonder what he thought of Andrew Wood as a person, though?

He liked Andy Wood they were friends if I’m not mistaken. Kurt’s “beef” was with Jeff Ament, Stone Goddard, and Bruce Fairweather over what went down in Green River even though it was none of his business. That’s why he didn’t like Mother Love Bone or Pearl Jam, but he was cool with Andy Wood and Eddie Vedder.

This is way more sick than Mother Love Bone. It’s got that old school punk/hardcore feel with similar vocal style to Patton (although I’m sure Patton sounds like Andrew not the other way around). Mother Love Bone sounds like cheesy Guns n Roses without solos and I don’t even like GNR to begin with
