The lyrical themes on “The Empty Frame” focus mainly on life changing events and how random circumstances and coincidences in life lead to great upheavals, loss, sadness, disillusion but also provides new opportunities and possibilities of filling out the empty frame – a symbol of life yet to be lived. And as always MALRUN’s lyrical universe is spiced with little pieces of every-day life, irony, sarcasm, humour and sex.
After MALRUNs debut album from 2010 received average European ratings of 8 out of 10 MALRUN began focusing outside the borders of Denmark on a more international set up. Now Dragon Productions from Hamburg handles European booking for MALRUN while Gordeon Music from Berlin handles European PR and advertising, and MALRUN has already shared the bill with bands such as Staind (US), Týr (Faroe Islands) and Mercenary (DK). In the spring 2011 MALRUN went on tour with Audrey Horne (NO) in Germany and Switzerland, and with the release of “The Empty Frame” a considerably larger tour will now be launched as MALRUN supports Die Apokalyptischen Reiter (D) on a 3½ week tour from 21st April to 13th May 2012 in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Belgium, The Netherlands, France, England, Spain and Italy.

Malrun Lyrics

Just listen well
Though the Moon is shining bright
No light can penetrate this
Moral decay
Behind the virtuous cloak
They will have their way
Where's the oath?
Just close your eyes
While they're taking turns
Ravaging the sweetness
Of a young girl
In the corner of her eye
You'll see a spark
And to those who stand nearby
You'll notice it is fading
Into a dull
And lifeless nuance of grey
Are you satisfied?
Hold out, Justine
Just close your eyes
While they're taking turns
Ravaging the sweetness
Of a young girl
Know the enemy?
We're the enemy!
The pure heart is so damn easy
Easy to break!
Are you proud of your achievement?
Hold out, Justine
Just close your eyes
While they're taking turns
Ravaging the sweetness
Of a young girl
The lyrics of Malrun's song Justine depict a disturbing scene of sexual assault on a young girl named Justine. The lyrics indicate that the incident is happening at night, and while the moon is shining bright, there is an unsettling moral decay in the air. The perpetrators of the assault are described as being behind a virtuous cloak, suggesting that they are hiding their true nature from the world. Justine is being repeatedly raped while the people around her stand by and watch. The lyrics tell Justine to hold out and close her eyes while these men ravage her.
The lyrics continue on to describe how Justine's pure heart is so easy to break, and the people assaulting her are referred to as the enemy. The lyrics echo themes of betrayal and darkness, as Justine is forced to endure this assault alone. There is a sense of hopelessness and despair that permeates the song, as if there is nothing anyone can do to help Justine.
Overall, the lyrics of Justine are a harrowing testament to the shocking reality of sexual assault. They depict the pain and suffering of victims with piercing accuracy, and they serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of speaking out against abuse and holding perpetrators accountable.
