The lyrical themes on “The Empty Frame” focus mainly on life changing events and how random circumstances and coincidences in life lead to great upheavals, loss, sadness, disillusion but also provides new opportunities and possibilities of filling out the empty frame – a symbol of life yet to be lived. And as always MALRUN’s lyrical universe is spiced with little pieces of every-day life, irony, sarcasm, humour and sex.
After MALRUNs debut album from 2010 received average European ratings of 8 out of 10 MALRUN began focusing outside the borders of Denmark on a more international set up. Now Dragon Productions from Hamburg handles European booking for MALRUN while Gordeon Music from Berlin handles European PR and advertising, and MALRUN has already shared the bill with bands such as Staind (US), Týr (Faroe Islands) and Mercenary (DK). Winter's Kiss
Malrun Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Blind me completely
Tie me discretely
Haunting my dreams
Shadows around you
Clouding the way through
It's a fatal delight
I have prayed in contrite
This confession absolves no sin
I shall meet you again
Hold you down as we lie in bliss
On this alter of stone
Feel the touch of Winter's Kiss
The Winter's Kiss
The Winter's Kiss
My Winter's Kiss
I'm waiting for you. Waiting for you
(Come back to me)
I'm waiting for you
This obsession drags me in
On a cold December night
On a moor covered in white
I'm waiting for you. Waiting for you
Kiss away remorseful sin. Let the absolution in
It's a fatal delight
When insanity seems to win
I have prayed in contrite
This confession absolves no sin
I shall meet you again
Hold you down as we lie in bliss
As we're freezing to death
Feel the touch of Winter's Kiss
Winter's Kiss by Malrun speaks about an obsession with a person who haunts the singer's dreams even though their love is not reciprocated. The person has blinded them and tied them discreetly which is emotionally impactful. The lyrics are full of imagery and metaphors - Shadows surround the person, clouding the way through as the singer confronts their obsession. It's a fatal delight when insanity seems to win, indicating that the singer is fully aware of the craziness of their thoughts.
The chorus speaks of waiting for the person in winter on a moor covered in white. The singer is waiting for their love to return and kiss away their remorseful sin, to provide some sort of absolution. The last verse is filled with desperation, where the singer is willing to hold the person down as they freeze to death while feeling the touch of winter's kiss.
In total, the song speaks of a love that is not reciprocated, leading to an unhealthy obsession. The chorus speaks of waiting for the winter's kiss, which could be interpreted as waiting for the end, given the themes focused around death and freezing.
