Maná followed with Sueños Líquidos (1997), Revolución de Amor (2002), and Amar es Combatir (2007), which continued the group's success. The band's most recent album, Drama y Luz, was released in April 2011.
The band's sound draws from the pop rock, Latin pop, calypso, reggae and ska music genres. They initially received international commercial success in Australia and Spain and have since gained popularity and exposure in the US, Western Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. ¿Por Qué Te Vas?
Maná Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The song "¿Por qué te vas?" by Maná is a heart-wrenching ballad about a lost love. The lyrics express the pain and longing of the singer, who hasn't seen or touched their love in a long time. The singer is filled with a yearning for their love that they can't even put into words, saying "te extraño tanto tanto corazón, que no sabes" ("I miss you so much, my heart, you don't even know").
The fast pace of the city seems to contrast with the slow burn of the singer's emotions, as they wonder why their love left without saying goodbye. They express how much they need their love's warmth, and how their smile could light up the sky for them. They muse that they don't know if it's better to die of love than to live without their lover. The refrain of "¿Por qué te vas?" ("Why did you go?") repeats over and over, emphasizing the central question of the song.
The lyrics convey a deep sense of loss and desperation which is only amplified by the plaintive melody of the song. The repetition of the refrain and the simple but poignant lyrics make the song a powerful expression of heartbreak.
