Their sound has strong influences from hard rock and more mellow pop sounds with additional influences from calypso and reggae. They started with the name "Sombrero Verde", but in the late 80's it was changed to the current name. They have a long trajectory as musicians and the band underwent two lineup changes in the 90's. The most known members are Fher Olvera in the vocals, and author of most of the songs they play, and Alex, the drummer.
The group's current line-up consists of vocalist/guitarist Fher Olvera, drummer Alex González, guitarist Sergio Vallín, and bassist Juan Calleros. The band formed in 1986 and released its first album, Falta Amor, in 1990. After several lineup changes, the group released Cuando los Ángeles Lloran (1995), which is noted for its stylistic departure from the band's previous work. Maná followed with Sueños Líquidos (1997), Revolución de Amor (2002), and Amar es Combatir (2007), which continued the group's success. The band's most recent album, Drama y Luz, was released in April 2011.
The band's sound draws from the pop rock, Latin pop, calypso, reggae and ska music genres. They initially received international commercial success in Australia and Spain and have since gained popularity and exposure in the US, Western Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. No other latin rock act sales more albums or arenas with the consistensy of Maná. The band has sold an estimated 35 million albums worldwide.[1]

Cuando los ángeles lloran
Maná Lyrics

Era un defensor y un ángel
De toda la Amazonia
El murió a sangre fría
Lo sabía Collor de Melo
Y también la policía
Lluvia cae sobre la aldea
Lluvia sobre el campanario
Pues alguien murió
Un ángel cayó
Un ángel murió
Un ángel se fue
Y no volverá
Cuando el asesino huía
Chico Méndez se moría
La selva se ahogaba en llanto
El dejó dos lindos críos
Una esposa valerosa
Y una selva en agonía
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Es por cada árbol que muere
Cada estrella que se apaga
Oh, no, no
Un ángel cayó
Un ángel murió
Un ángel se fue
Y no volverá
Un ángel cayó
Un ángel murió
Un ángel se fue
Se fue volando en madrugada
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Lloverá
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Lloverá
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Lloverá
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Cuando los ángeles lloran
Lloverá
The lyrics of Maná's song "Cuando los Ángeles Lloran" speak about the unjust death of Chico Méndez, a defender and angel of the Amazon. The lyrics describe how Chico Méndez was killed in cold blood, and both Collor de Melo and the police were aware of it. When a person dies, the angels cry, and rain falls on the village and the church. The lyrics also mention the impact of his death on his wife, his two children, and the dying forest that he left behind.
The song "Cuando los Ángeles Lloran" is a tribute to Chico Mendez and his fight to preserve the Amazon. Mendez was a rubber tapper in Brazil, and he worked to protect the land and people who depended on it. He led a nonviolent campaign to stop ranchers and loggers from cutting down the rainforest. However, his efforts were met with resistance from the government and powerful landowners. He was killed in 1988, and his death drew international attention to the issue of rainforest conservation.
