3. Stoner Hard Rock from Belgium
Molded from solid Flemish clay, a new promising Belgian stoner formation is born. There aren't to many bands here in Belgium who play groovy (stoner) rock, we have Mogul, Kube, Hulk, Triggerfinger ..., once we had Cowboys & Aliens, Hypnos69 and El Guapo Stuntteam... sadly, these are disbanded. Now we have Mans Ruin, and they have just released their self titled debut (mini) album, including 5 groovy tracks brought in the best stoner rock tradition, although there are some very Helmet-ish hooks in it (who can't remember their astonishing debut 'Meantime'). Anyway, Fu Manchu and Dozer fans, please pay attention to Mans Ruin, 'cause this is good old fashioned stoner rock.
Hard Times
Man's Ruin Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Working all the time. No time to play.
I guess one day I'll be someone.
Not standing with my head under a gun.
[Chorus]
Hard Tims have made me strong.
Hard Times showed me where I belong.
Hard Times- I don't ever want to go back.
Again and again you'll be put to the test.
You don't want to end up like the rest.
It may be harder than you think.
Rembeber I'll be there to watch you sink.
(... 2-3-4)
[Chorus]
I had to fight for all I got.
Courage is not a thing to be bought.
And if you think you're just like me
Walk in my shoes and we shall see.
[Chorus]
Again and again you'll be put to the test.
You don't want to end up like the rest.
It may be harder than you think.
Remember I'll be there to watch you sink.
(..2-3-4)
[Chorus: x2]
The lyrics of Man's Ruin's song Hard Times reflect the experience of someone who is working hard to make ends meet and achieve success. The opening lines suggest that the singer is saving money and working all the time with no leisure time. However, they believe that their hard work will pay off eventually, and they will not have to live in fear or under pressure. The chorus suggests that hard times have made the singer strong and have shown them their place in the world. They feel that hard times have put them on the right track, and they never want to go back to those days.
The second verse sounds like a warning to the listener. The singer states that the listener, too, will be tested repeatedly, and they do not want the listener to end up like the rest - those who failed the test. The verse also suggests that the test may be harder than the listener thinks. The song ends where it began, repeating the chorus twice.
