Dead End Dreams
Man Overboard Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I've got nothing to show for these dead end dreams
My heart will ache again, it seems

I don't know how old I am
I don't know if I'm grown up
I feel good when I hold your hand
But when you're gone it's not enough
(No, it's never enough)
I'm busy trying to save my world
And making plans to see a girl
I'll do both if I can
And figure out how old I am

[Chorus]
I've got nothing to show for these dead end dreams
My heart will ache again, it seems
'Cause you're not in my arms
And all I want to do is keep my promises to you
They'll come true

(They'll come true)

I don't know what to write to you
I don't know what your dream boy sings
I don't know what I'm addicted to
It's at least a few different things
Just a few, how could I save the world?
Too busy trying to see a girl
I'll do both if I can
And figure out how old I am

[Chorus: x2]

If there was any attempt to make ends meet
I'll meet you halfway
(I'll meet you halfway there)
If there was any attempt to make ends meet
I'll meet you halfway
(And you would tell me)

I've got nothing to show for these dead end dreams
My heart will ache again, it seems
'Cause you're not in my arms
And all I want to do is keep my promises to you

Nothing to show for these
Dead end dreams that constantly haunt me
Nothing to show for these dead end dreams

[Chorus]

Come true
(My promises to you)

Overall Meaning

The song "Dead End Dreams" by Man Overboard is a song about the struggles of growing up and trying to find your place in the world. The lyrics speak to the feeling of being stuck in dead-end dreams or situations and not knowing how to move forward. The singer talks about being unsure of his age and not feeling like a grown-up but knowing that he wants to save the world and make plans to be with the girl he loves.

The first verse talks about not having anything to show for the dreams that he has had and that his heart will ache again. This could mean that he has tried to pursue certain aspirations in his life, but they haven't panned out, and he's left feeling empty. The second verse speaks to not knowing what to say or do to impress the girl he likes and feeling addicted to her presence.

The chorus is a reminder of the frustration and disappointment that comes with not having what you want in life, but a sense of hope that his promises will come true.

Overall, the song is about the struggle of trying to find your place in the world and feeling like your dreams are out of reach. But it also speaks to the power of love and the hope that we can hold onto, even when things aren't going our way.

+Roy Arnett lol, i know right. I can't stand Soulja boy, but I don't waste my time hating on his music. I Simply just ignore it like it doesn't exist.

+Dog Mayor why so negative bro? Not trying to start anything I just don't see why you have to be so pessimistic about it. Everyone is entitled to their opinion but if you don't like the music then that's fine that's your choice, move on. But it's rather unnecessary to leave hate mail don't you think? I'm not a fan of Miley Cyrus but I don't make it a point to search her videos and leave a comment about how awful her music is. Just saying.

Hah, I spent some time in high school with these dudes. Someone told me to check out Man Overboard which I did and I'm kind of in disbelief. I'm ridiculously excited for 'em after seeing some of their videos, but so weird! Imagine seeing dudes you knew from high school and after-school activities in this video. Surreal, really. Best of luck Zach, Justin and the rest
