Dead End in Tokyo
Man with a Mission Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

In a dead end street in Tokyo
Finished my bottle all alone
Where I'll end up well
I just don't know
Another dead end in Tokyo

There's a thousand glowing street signs all in a row
And there's a rich man toasting to the people below
He's just standing at his window sipping
Dom Perignon
Because he feels like the king of Kabuki-Cho waoh oh oh

She's got a suitcase full of big dreams (big dreams)
She's in a city full of bigger lies (bigger lies)
He's Shinjuku James Dean
Keep on living but you never leave alive

Hey mister I got it
Whatever it is you want
Dream on chaotic
Just another dead end in Tokyo, ooh, ooh
Just another dead end in Tokyo, ooh, ooh
Just another dead end in Tokyo

One thousand tired people all scattered like rats
And there's a drunk man sleeping in a pile of trash
He hears the sounds of Karaoke and a Mercedes Benz
He wakes up and checks his reflection in a broken glass
Oh, oh, oh

She's got a suitcase full of big dreams (big dreams)
She's in a city full of bigger lies (bigger lies)
He's Shinjuku James Dean
Keep on living but you never leave alive
Hey mister I got it
Whatever it is you want
Dream on chaotic
Just another dead end in Tokyo
Sister you've got it
I can take you anywhere you want
Dream on exotic
Just another dead end in Tokyo, ooh, ooh
Just another dead end in Tokyo, ooh, ooh
Just another dead end in Tokyo

In a dead end street in Tokyo
Finished my bottle all alone
Where I'll end up well
I just don't know
Another dead end in Tokyo

She's got a suitcase full of big dreams
She's in a city full of bigger lies
He's Shinjuku James Dean
Keep on living but you never leave alive

Hey mister I got it
Whatever it is you want
Dream on chaotic
Just another dead end in Tokyo
Sister you've got it
I can take you anywhere you want
Dream on exotic
Just another dead end in Tokyo, ooh, ooh

Just another dead end in Tokyo, ooh, ooh

Overall Meaning

The song "Dead End in Tokyo" by Man with a Mission reflects the harsh and urban reality of life in the city. It talks about the struggles of individuals who have dreams and ambitions but are constantly pushed back by the unforgiving city. The lyrics begin with the singer stranded in a dead end street in Tokyo, having finished a bottle of something all alone, with no idea of where they will end up.

The lyrics then talk about the city itself, with a thousand glowing street signs and a rich man toasting from his window. The man is sipping on champagne and feeling like the king of Kabuki-Cho, an area in Tokyo known for its entertainment and nightlife. The song also talks about a girl with big dreams in a city full of bigger lies, and a man known as Shinjuku James Dean who keeps on living but never leaves alive. The lyrics convey a sense of hopelessness, with individuals just chasing their dreams and getting lost in the city's chaos.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Hey mister I got it, whatever it is you want, dream on chaotic, just another dead end in Tokyo" and "Sister you've got it, I can take you anywhere you want, dream on exotic, just another dead end in Tokyo." These lines indicate that no matter what you dream of, the city will always find a way to push back and limit you, and that even if you think you have a way out, it will ultimately lead to another dead end.

Dead End In Tokyo"

The chorus is
'She's got a suitcase full of big dreams
She's in a city full of bigger lies
He's Shinjuku James Dean
Keep on living, but you'll never leave alive.'

I personally feel that can be interpreted like this
You can have your 'suitcase full of big dreams', and try your best to attain those dreams, and you think that if you put in enough effort you can make it somewhere
But 'the city full of bigger lies' is what keeps you from achieving those dreams...the lie is that what you think isn't how it really works
'Skinjuku James Dean' personafies somebody who is at the end goal you were reaching for, and so you think there has to be some way...but theres not...that's another of the 'bigger lies', you'll never know how he got to where he is...you keep trying, 'keep on living' despite the unknown, but in the end, you'll have worked for nothing and you'll 'never leave alive'

I'm telling y'all America's gotta pick up on this, it's damn good shit. When the language barrier is surpassed, Japanese bands can rock with the best of us, if not even better. No dead ends here.

miharu

This song sounds just like a Fall Out Boy song to me. But I mean, Patrick Stump helped write it :)

Adobong manok

western rock music died😞 j-rock save the genre.

Muhammad Syafiq

this literally a fall out boy song with Japanese references.

Iain Cowell

@Adobong manok "western rock music died" I say this to everyone who says that. No it didn't, you're just not looking.
