Princess Sahara
Manila Luzon Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

And that boys and girls was the story of princess Carmen.
Maybe that was a little too graphic for you kids.
Another storybook?
Aren't you tired of all these queens yet?
Ok I got Ru-punzel, Rajastiltsken, how bout Rip Van Willam?
Oh heres a great one
Once upon a time in a faraway kingdom called Harlem
Lived a beautiful princess named Sahara
She was the most beautiful princess in all of the kingdoms and all of the land.
I also hear there was this other Asian princess, she was pretty cute too, anyway.
Every seventh sunday, the princess would go out on her balcony overlooking the whole kingdom, and dance for anyone who could see her.
And lets just say the ones who could saw her dance, said the bitch was twirling.
Then, one dark night, a mysterious dragon snuck into her castle, and left a very interesting gift.
Ooh! I like presents!
When the princess awoke the next morning, she discovered she was wearing a new pair of shoes, magic shoes.
Hmm, sorry kids, it doesn't say what label, lets just say Fendi.
These magic Fendi shoes allowed the princess to dance forever, so everyone could see her dance.
So she would dance for her adoring kingdom, every day and every night.
Girl, that sounds like a lot of dancin'.
But the magic shoes were cursed. For the princess could never, ever take them off her feet.
Ooh, and Fendi runs small kids.
One day after dancing every day and every night and never stopping, the princess grew tired.
She wanted to stop dancing, but she couldn't.

So, that night, Princess Sahara danced all the way up to the stars, where she could dance for her whole kingdom to see, for the rest of eternity.
The End.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Manila Luzon's "Princess Sahara" open up with the story of princess Carmen, which is too graphic for kids- therefore implying that what will follow is a somewhat dark tale. Then we see a shift to the introduction of the real protagonist, princess Sahara, who is said to be the most beautiful princess in all the kingdoms and land. Her fame grows as she comes out every seventh Sunday to dance for her subjects, and her dancing skills are claimed to be outstanding. One dark night, a dragon snuck into her castle and left her a pair of magic Fendi shoes. These shoes allowed her to dance forever, making her even more popular among her subjects. However, the shoes were cursed, and the princess could never take them off, leading her to dance continuously, which ultimately resulted in her dancing all the way up to the stars, where she dances for the rest of eternity.
