I was stung by one of these in my twenties. I was swimming in the ocean with my then boyfriend. We were goofing around and I only saw it out of the corner of my eye. I thought it was seaweed until I got stung, then I freaked out. Then when I did this I got my ankles tangled in the tentacles. I ended up getting both feet, and my entire left side of my body, leg, side, arm stung. When we got out we found a life guard and they could actually see it from shore and started warning others to beware of it. It was a painful 5 hr drive home after that. I will never forget it and now I am more careful when I swim in the ocean.
