1) Is a project by Martin Schindler founded on or about 1997 which disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2008. Both Martin Schindler and Tina Schindler are also active in electro act Black Heaven and metal outfit Sepia.
The band's name derives from Roman and Etruscan mythology, where Mantus and his wife, Mania were gods of the underworld. They were associated with the city Mantua. Mantus was identified as the "leader of souls", escorting the souls of the dead down into the underworld.
As already said, Mantus is a project by Martin Schindler. But his idea of dark romance only could have been realised by alternating singing of female and male voices. That's why he involved his sister always named as Thalia, which is certainly not her real name.
So the alternating female/male-singing is one incisive aspect of Mantus' musical appearance. Overall the style of the music ranges doom-metal to some kind of pop. The texts contain themes like love, hate, death, perpetuity or immortality but also criticism on global problems as racism, xenophobia and rape.
The reason for their minor popularity in spite of existing for 8 years and releasing 6 albums is that they never gave concerts or appeared in the charts (they never had any ambitions, too).

Blieben unerkannt
Als der Himmel sich verformte
Sind wir weggerannt
Für uns gab es keine Wahrheit
Die uns wichtig schien
Und was blieb uns als sich langsam
Zurückzuziehen
Dieser Traum von Tod und Leben
Der uns noch zusammenhält
Und wir machten es zum Schicksal
Und erfanden unsere Welt
Für uns gab es keine Heimat
Die wir anerkannt
Als die letzten Tränen fielen
Sind wir weggerannt
Und wir stießen an die Grenzen
Unserer Einsamkeit
Denn wir standen an den Klippen
Einer neuen Zeit
The lyrics of Mantus's song "Letzte Tränen" (translated as "Last tears") depict a sense of escapism and isolation. The first verses describe the duo's escape to dark caves, where they remain anonymous and hidden from the outside world. As the skies transform, they run away from what they perceive to be a hostile environment. Throughout the song, they highlight the lack of truth and importance of the things they believed in, prompting them to slowly withdraw from their surroundings.
The following verse depicts a dream of death and life that still holds them together. Rather than relying on reality, they choose to create their own destiny and invent their own world. The fact that they had no home that they recognized and were forced to flee when the last tears fell further emphasizes the lack of belonging that they experienced. They hit the limits of their loneliness, standing at the cliffs of a new era.
Overall, the song seems to reflect a feeling of isolation and disconnection from reality, as the lyrics are filled with images of escape and invention. The duo's decision to create their own reality, rather than relying on the truth, highlights the importance of imagination in coping with the overwhelming sense of isolation.
