1) Is a project by Martin Schindler founded on or about 1997 which disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2008. Both Martin Schindler and Tina Schindler are also active in electro act Black Heaven and metal outfit Sepia.
The band's name derives from Roman and Etruscan mythology, where Mantus and his wife, Mania were gods of the underworld. They were associated with the city Mantua. Mantus was identified as the "leader of souls", escorting the souls of the dead down into the underworld.
As already said, Mantus is a project by Martin Schindler. But his idea of dark romance only could have been realised by alternating singing of female and male voices. That's why he involved his sister always named as Thalia, which is certainly not her real name.
So the alternating female/male-singing is one incisive aspect of Mantus' musical appearance. Overall the style of the music ranges doom-metal to some kind of pop. The texts contain themes like love, hate, death, perpetuity or immortality but also criticism on global problems as racism, xenophobia and rape.
The reason for their minor popularity in spite of existing for 8 years and releasing 6 albums is that they never gave concerts or appeared in the charts (they never had any ambitions, too).

Mantus Lyrics

Mantusalem, Mantusalem
tief in der Unterwelt
Mantusalem, Mantusalem
(jenseits von dieser Welt)
The lyrics to Mantus's song Mantusalem deal with the concept of life, death, and immortality. The singer is asking for his sick soul to be guided from the shadows into the light, to the place of a thousand deaths where life is eternal. The concept of eternity is portrayed as a game of time, where the soul can find refuge. However, this refuge is not without its dangers, as the singer warns that the delusion of immortality never ends and breaks with God's word. In this place, feelings and thoughts merge, and the meaning of life is nothing but desire. The singer also suggests that immortality is a form of eternal suffering and agony, a burden that no one can escape, no matter how far they try to flee. The pain of existence is carried until a distant land where a new life is born, evidenced by the rising sun on the horizon.
The second half of the lyrics mention the namesake of the song, Mantusalem, who is deeply entrenched in the underworld. The singer asks if the listener has been to heaven and told it about him, or if they've felt the fires of hell and presented him there. The repetition of Mantusalem's name at the end of each line gives an almost haunting tone, invoking a sense of mystery and danger.
Overall, the song is about the desire for eternal life but warns that immortality is a double-edged sword, where endless suffering and agony will plague the soul.
