1) Is a project by Martin Schindler founded on or about 1997 which disbanded in 2005 but reunited in 2008. Both Martin Schindler and Tina Schindler are also active in electro act Black Heaven and metal outfit Sepia.
The band's name derives from Roman and Etruscan mythology, where Mantus and his wife, Mania were gods of the underworld. They were associated with the city Mantua. Mantus was identified as the "leader of souls", escorting the souls of the dead down into the underworld.
As already said, Mantus is a project by Martin Schindler. But his idea of dark romance only could have been realised by alternating singing of female and male voices. That's why he involved his sister always named as Thalia, which is certainly not her real name.
So the alternating female/male-singing is one incisive aspect of Mantus' musical appearance. Overall the style of the music ranges doom-metal to some kind of pop. The texts contain themes like love, hate, death, perpetuity or immortality but also criticism on global problems as racism, xenophobia and rape.
The reason for their minor popularity in spite of existing for 8 years and releasing 6 albums is that they never gave concerts or appeared in the charts (they never had any ambitions, too).

Die Schwärze und das Licht
Am Himmel glänzen Sterne
Erinnerung zerbricht
Ich falle in die Tiefe
Und tauche in die Zeit
Bin tot und verlassen,
Verloren in der Einsamkeit
Meine Seele erstarrt
Und der Geist wie gelähmt
All die Sehnsucht in mir
Nur von Tränen getränkt
Illusionen der Nacht
Zwischen Glaube und Sein
Und ich treibe ins Nichts
Denn ich lebe und bleibe
Allein...
Das Blut meiner Gedanken
Das Zentrum meiner Angst
Ein Schatten von Erkenntnis
Der mir ins Fleisch gebrannt
Ich spüre das Verlangen
Die Kälte und das Licht
Die ungreifbare Leere
Im Herzen der Finsternis
De Profundis,
De Profundis
Lacrimosa,
Lacrimosa
The song "Requiem" by Mantus is a haunting and melancholic piece that explores themes of loss, grief, and loneliness. The opening lines describe the singer's fall into the abyss of time and their subsequent feeling of being abandoned and lost in the void. The imagery of darkness and light and the glimmering stars in the sky add to the sense of disorientation and despair.
As the song progresses, the singer's soul becomes frozen and their spirit paralyzed, overcome by the weight of their longing and sadness. The illusions of the night blur the boundaries between faith and reality, and the singer finds themselves drifting towards nothingness, alone and isolated.
The final lines of the song contain the Latin phrases "De Profundis" and "Lacrimosa," which approximately translate to "out of the depths" and "tearful" respectively. These phrases are often used in religious contexts, particularly in relation to death and mourning. In the context of the song, they further emphasize the sense of sorrow and loss that permeates the lyrics.
Overall, "Requiem" is a powerful and emotive song that conveys a sense of intense sadness and despair. The lyrics are open to interpretation and can be seen as a reflection on the pain of grief or the struggles of existence in a cold and uncaring universe.
