Biko
Manu Dibango Lyrics

September '77
Port Elizabeth weather fine
It was business as usual
In police room 619
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
The man is dead
The man is dead
When I try to sleep at night
I can only dream in red
The outside world is black and white
With only one colour dead
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
The man is dead
The man is dead

You can blow out a candle
But you can't blow out a fire
Once the flames begin to catch
The wind will blow it higher
Oh Biko, Biko, because Biko
Yihla Moja, Yihla Moja
The man is dead
The man is dead

And the eyes of the world are watching now, watching now

WOW! I've been a PG fan since 1983, Ladysmith Black Mambazo since Graceland and Geoffrey Oryema since Beat The Border, and I'm just now hearing this 1994 recording in 2020! How does that happen? Life sometimes gets in the way of the stuff you love. This is a great rendition! Thanks for the upload.

I love this as a version but I think the original, starker, album version catches the mood better.

Good grooves, but it doesn't have the anthemic quality of the original; the message and intensity are very nearly lost with this.

A DIFFERENT VERSION. I LOVE IT TOO.
