1) Manual is the performing name of electronic musician, Jonas Munk, from Odense, Denmark. Manual's music is considered to be in the styles of ambient, dream pop , and indietronica. His sound tends to contain a mix of software synthesizers, guitars (sometimes sampled or heavily processed), and various digital signal processing effects. Mixing elements of pop, glitch, and indie music, Manual is compared to artists ranging from IDM artists, such as Boards of Canada, as well as shoegazer groups like My Bloody Valentine.

Munk's output as Manual is strongly associated with the aesthetic of Morr Music, the label that released his first two albums. He is also featured on the Morr Music compilation Blue Skied an' Clear, which was a Slowdive tribute.

However, Munk's artistic visions didn't fit into the narrow Morr aesthetic, and in 2004 he joined the American label Darla. Simultaneously, Munk started a psych stoner band called Causa Sui, and they released their self-titled debut album in December 2005.

Not gonna lie, I'm jealous dude..excellent choice for a daily driver!😎 In my mind, the Toybaru twins and Miata are the last truly affordable pure sportscars on the planet, and you got the slightly faster, slightly more practical choice, but pure pleasure with each drive no matter which way you go. The spec you ordered is spot on with my tastes, love the wheels and darker blues have always been in my wheelhouse. (Second car I ever owned was a partially restored '78 280Z in a similar shade) Here's hoping for many more updates in the future!

So good to see you back in a BRZ again Chris! I remember you use to have 16 inch BBS wheels that were really light on your old BRZ - if you want an alternative there's TWS T66F 16x7.0j that is used in Japan's 86/BRZ Cup car series, which weigh 10.6lbs per corner. They probably cost a lot to ship from Japan, but maybe Counterspace Garage might have a few in stock. Keep up the great work!

Very immersive video as always from this great channel! I wonder if the smaller trunk opening (compared to the 1st gen BRZ) was for improving the car's torsional rigidity? Seeing that most 1st gen owners saw around 20-30whp increase by doing headers and a tune with E85, perhaps we could see similar improvements on this 2nd gen car, and it could keep up with a supercharged 1st gen - maybe 240whp? We're really grateful that cars like the BRZ and MX-5s still exist to this day.

@R Camacho I’m not sure. The prior gen had a lot of power tied up in the header, never mind the torque dip. I doubt we’re going to see the same kind of gains on this car. I think Toyota and Subaru spent more time trying to eek out all they could from the car.

Might see some decent gains by losing the cats, but even then I don’t think we are going to see +40 HP. I would LOVE to be wrong BTW. This car at 250 would be perfect.

This car should be rated 240-250hp at the crank. Force induction is gonna be awesome. I think it’ll get over 250+ at the wheels with headers and high flow filter, e85 and a tune easily.

I have to say, I'm impressed with the Toyobaru twins. I personally like the GR86 more, but this BRZ in 'Subaru Blue' is quite amazing. Also, those shifts are much more poignant than the outgoing model and the sound the car makes when going from gear to gear is awesome.

hey Topher, great vid as always. I got my GR86 and it has ~650 miles on it now, and I was wondering if you hear any rattle from the transmission? it happens to mine when lugging the engine or when accelerating in 1st or second from a low rpm. thanks!

Really liking the second gen was hard to resist buying one of these a couple years ago when I was car shopping. It’s gonna be even harder now when my current car is paid off in 2 years. Gonna be a challenge getting out of the Toyota dealers when I’m picking up parts for my wife’s venza. You know once dealers actually have some of these to tease us with.

I think 16" wheels are the way to go for daily driving. I recently replaced the tires (215/45R17) on my FR-S and soon ruptured two of them on a nasty pothole here in Seattle, which gets fewer freeze-thaw cycles than your neck of the woods. In retrospect, I should have gotten a 16" wheel & tire package instead of just replacing the tires.

@Username its a near 1cm difference in sidewall height…pretty significant. Your tires have a 105.75mm sidewall whereas a 215/45/17 are only 96.75mm tall (4.16” to 3.81”). Tire type certainly does play a role, but so does where you hit the pothole, etc. Either way, a 1cm taller sidewall is pretty significant.

@g60corrado91 Right but I have 235s on my WRX and he has 215s. That isn't really a huge difference. My point was I literally drove over an entire parking block at 15-20mph and didn't damage a single thing. And I also live near Seattle and have driven over very nasty potholes and had zero issues. So I don't see how him with still 45 sidewall tires, only slightly smaller tires, is having issues with potholes.
Maybe he is buying shitty tires.

@Username the middle number is called an aspect ratio. So in the case of a 215/45/17, the total height of the tire is 45% of the 215 section width. It gets complicated with total wheel size, but the summary is that not every 45 section width tire is the same height.

In the case of a GTI for instance that comes on 225/40/18, a 225/45/17 is the equivalent. Or 205/55/16. Or 225/35/19 (most will go 235/35/19). I always used 1010tires calculator to figure out what size to run.

whats crazy is that engine sounds remarkably similar to a bone stock b16b ek9 civic type r. especially that final 500 rpm war-cry. i dig the hell out of it. a nice exhaust will sweeten the low rpm sound and make cruising much more enjoyable.

Maybe I just have too few comparison points for NA engines, but the engine noise characteristics almost remind me of the NA miata.
Tractor-like at low revs, and then a complete change in tone as you up the RPMs.
It just sounds more insulated comparatively, and a different pitch.

I did a bunch of autocross runs with the Primacies, and had a crazy good time. You can feel where the edge is and balance it. Swapped my fat 200 UTQG tires and though the grip was higher, it wasn’t as fun due to not getting feel for the limit. Maybe it is the Falkens and I’ll like another 200 compound better.

Lack of that helper spring is known to cause premature throw out bearing wear. The mtec spring is a better option IMO. Without any spring there the clutch pedal is just sitting against the resistance of the hydraulic system. The spring, even a lightweight one keeps all the load off the system.

Awesome car! FYI: You'll get better results on a track if sticking with 17" wheels vs going down to a similar 16" setup because you lose traction with the smaller setup due to having less grip surface area. Ex: 225/40/17 will give you a larger contact patch than a 225/40/16 would. Not to mention, 16s look a little small for this platform.

Does the programmable shift light still work when you're in the standard gauges display, or do you have to switch to the Sport gauges to get the shift lights?

I do and did rear swaybar on my 2017 and 2022 (did 15, 16 and 19mm OE Subaru). You're the first person I see say this, like me. I do not understand how people get away with doing front swaybar; they can't be doing track, just slalom. What will you try as rear bar ? 16mm WRX ?

@TheTopher 16mm with OE front to rear spring rate bias. Bigger with square spring rates. I find the 2022 (I have a GR but drove both several times) have more tuned in understeer than any previous year (had a 2015 and 1017 both Toyota)

I got the kona N and man that car is so much fun like the BRZ you need to try it out. You'll be shocked because it feels like a hot hatch but it's not. Also that bigger turbo pulls so well.

I’ve been looking at a “toy” car that’s not insanely fast and expensive. The BRZ is definitely a good option for my commute so I can have a little fun when I find an empty curvy road. I need to check out the new Z first when it becomes available… 400 hp in a compact chassis should be very interesting (more $$$ than a BRZ though).

@Username yes, I am considering all these… Also BMW 2 series coupe. I’d rather stick with simple reliable models though… My experience with VW in the past has not been great when it comes to reliability (2 VW bought new and one used with very low mileage). So Toyota, Subaru and Honda models are prime candidates. PS: I already have 2 very practical and reliable cars.

I think you should consider a base model GTI instead. Way more practical, way better MPG, only requires 87 octane instead of 91, way more luxuries, (automatic rain sensing wipers, wireless charging, blind spot detection, automatic emergency braking, rear traffic detection, adaptive cruise control even with a MT) and much more that the BRZ/gr86 don't have and it's the exact same price as the upper trim of the BRZ/gr86. Not to mention that it has way better stereo and way better noise isolation than the BRZ/gr86 which are quiet loud in the cabin especially from tire and wind noise, which would get very annoying every day commuting if on a highway.
Edit: And instead of the 400z you should consider the 2023 Corolla GR hatchback. 270+ hp with AWD from a 1.6L 3 cylinder engine (which will get incredible has mileage).
