Secret Love
Manuel Galban Lyrics

That lived within the heart of me
All too soon my secret love,
Became impatient to be free
So I told a friendly star,
The way that dreamers often do
Just how wonderful you are,
Now, I shout it from the highest hills
Even told the golden daffodils
At last my hearts an open door,
And my secret love's
No secret anymore.
In the song 'Secret Love', Ry Cooder describes how he had a secret love living within his heart for a long time which he kept hidden from the world. He fantasized about confessing his love to his beloved but was hesitant to disclose his feelings. However, he realized that he cannot contain his emotions any longer and decided to reveal his secret love to the world. He confided in a 'friendly star' that symbolizes the universe, and expressed his love. He conveyed how wonderful his beloved is and what makes him so deeply in love with that person. Finally, he shouts it from the highest hills and even shares it with the golden daffodils. He discloses that his heart's doors are now open and everyone can know about his secret love.
The lyrics of the song 'Secret Love' depict a poignant story of a person who harbors a secret love in his heart but hesitates to confess his feelings. The lyrics convey the intensity of the emotions of the singer and the fear of not being accepted after revealing the truth. Ry Cooder flawlessly captures the essence of unrequited love, and the desire to share it with the whole world. The song also signifies the importance of expressing love and living life without hiding any of your feelings.

Once I had a secret love,
There was a time when I had a hidden love
That lived within the heart of me
My love lived deep within my heart
All too soon my secret love,
Soon, my concealed love
Became impatient to be free
Wanted to break free eagerly
So I told a friendly star,
I confided in a friendly star
The way that dreamers often do
Like dreamers usually do
Just how wonderful you are,
About how wonderful you are
And why I'm so in love with you
And why I'm deeply in love with you
Now, I shout it from the highest hills
Now, I proclaim it from the top of hills
Even told the golden daffodils
I even shared it with the golden daffodils
At last my hearts an open door,
Finally, my heart is an open invitation
And my secret love's
And my hidden love
No secret anymore.
Isn't concealed anymore

"Secret Love" is a song composed by Sammy Fain (music) and Paul Francis Webster (lyrics) [2] for Calamity Jane, a 1953 musical film in which it was introduced by Doris Day in the title role.[2] Ranked as a number 1 hit for Day on both the Billboard and Cash Box, the song also afforded Day a number 1 hit in the UK. "Secret Love" has subsequently been recorded by a wide range of artists, becoming a C&W hit firstly for Slim Whitman and later for Freddy Fender, with the song also becoming an R&B hit for Billy Stewart, whose version also reached the Top 40 as did Freddy Fender's.[3] In the U.K., "Secret Love" would become the career record of Kathy Kirby via her 1963 remake of the song.[2] The melody bears a slight resemblance to the opening theme of Schubert's A-major piano sonata, D.664.
