La Terrible Canción Nº 1
Manuel García Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Quiero ponerme a gritar

Quiero ponerme a llorar

Late, llueve
Late, llueve

Late, llueve, sangra, duele

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Manuel García's song La Terrible Canción Nº 1 are loaded with imagery and emotion. The opening line of the song likens a clown to a husband who exposes his wife's vulnerability and secrets to the world, and the circus is over. The second line describes the singer as being drenched in the blood of Christ and wanting to scream. The image of the dead girlfriend hugging the singer is simultaneously beautiful and tragic.

The second verse of the song is more grounded in reality. The mother character seems to be a source of comfort, yet the singer feels the weight of the empty streets and hears a distant voice. The Beatles' music provides a temporal bridge to the past, and the singer reflects on a lost love before the song returns to the present. The singer's name is called, and the feel of the circus is back, and the closing line echoes the second verse's sentiment that something remains out of reach.

Overall, the song is about pain, fragility, and longing. The singer seems to seek solace in his dreams, past memories, or through music, but something always seems to be out of grasp. This song is an introspective piece that speaks to the human condition and our shared experiences with loss, pain, and the pursuit of connection.
