Yes, it's often windy. Most days will have winds around 10mph avg. Calm days are rare.

You are in some really great places to use the new DJI fpv drone as well. Not cheap, but cheaper than an airplane and almost as breathtaking to fly one.

@Kevin Loughin I've built and bought and broken a fair amount of fpv drones and agree with the critique when it comes to heavy airobatic freestyle or racing. I do think exploring places like where you travel though is the perfect niche for the drone. Though fragile if crashed, it has a decently long range and cruise control, obstacle avoidance in normal mode, plenty of power to fight strong winds, and a lot more sophisticated return to home function than most fpv drones. And withe the goggles it is still less expensive than a Mavic 2. I hope to pick one up at a good used price in a year or so. I have the DJI fpv goggles and use them with one of my race drones. It really feels like you are in the pilot seat compared to analog.

You could spend a lot less and build an FPV drone. And one that can easily be patched when you crash it. I think DJI's will be a plaything for a few, but not really take off. (pun intended) It's too pricey and too fragile. But that's just my opinion. Time will tell.

Q. Have you dealt with sand fleas?
Take a day or two, go to the ghost mine town, get glimpse of history and the way of living back around the 1800. Sift for some gold, visit Maebels there in town and see where the miners went for a bath and 'entertainment.' Maybe Get a nice meal while out and about.
Wide 2 lane asphalt on route to the town for the bigger vehicles.
HRO not far away.
2m, 70cm repeaters are accessible pretty much anywhere..
