María Isabel grew up in a musical family while living in Queens. She always knew she wanted to make music, citing powerful women such as Alicia Keys, Mariah Carey, and Lauryn Hill as her biggest influences.
She studied in the music program at New York University while singing for the campus' a cappella group, APC Rhythm. Only during her first year at NYU did she start writing and recording her own songs, giving her a new outlet to express her thoughts and feelings. Soon after, she began to gain popularity through her Instagram and SoundCloud, where she would publish covers in addition to her own music.
After graduation, María Isabel moved to Los Angeles to further her career. In February 2020, she released her debut single “The 1,” followed by her debut EP Stuck In The Sky in October of the same year, which is based on the painful experience of a long-distance relationship.
(2) María Isabel López Rodríguez (b. 4 January 1995), known professionally as María Isabel, is a Spanish singer and songwriter. She is best known for winning the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2004 with the song "Antes muerta que sencilla". Winning at the age of nine years, ten months, and 16 days old, she became the youngest person to win the contest to date (a few days younger than the Tolmachevy Sisters, the only other nine-year-old winners).
Several weeks before winning the festival she released her first album, titled "¡No me toques las palmas que me conozco!". This CD included "Antes muerta que sencilla", which launched her career in the Spanish show business world, making her a competitor of another Spaniard child star, Melody.

Sittin' shotgun to my love
When I'm alone again
Back on my own again
I roll the memories in my head
Cold days spent like this
Meet me on 13th and 6th
Back on my own again
I roll the memories in my head
By your side
Stars they look insane
Look into my eyes, and pick my brain
Your voice the remedy
When I'm not feelin' myself
They speak a lot on angels where I'm from
Didn't know earth could be home to one
But now I am sure of it
Know that you're worth lovin'
Drivin' down the 1
Sittin' shotgun to my love
When I'm alone again
Back on my own again
I roll the memories in my head
Cold days spent like this
Meet me on 13th and 6th
When I'm alone again
Back on my own again
I roll the memories in my head
On my side
Stars don't look the same
Time takes its toll
But you stay on my brain
Doesn't matter who's getting on a plane
Leaving being left hurts either way
And I will make time for the face time
Cause you start your day while I end mine
Feared we would fade when we said bye
But still I am sure of it
Know that you're worth loving
Drivin' down the 1
Sittin' shotgun to my love
When I'm alone again
Back on my own again
I roll the memories in my head
Cold days spent like this
Meet me on 13th and 6th
When I'm alone again
Back on my own again
I roll the memories in my head
The song "The 1" by María Isabel is a love song about a roadtrip down the Pacific Coast Highway, also known as the 1, with her significant other. In the first verse, she reminisces about her memories with her love and how she thinks about them when she is alone. The second verse alludes to a meeting spot on 13th and 6th avenue, suggesting they have spent time in New York City together. The chorus reinforces the idea that the memories of their time together keep her company when she is alone.
In the bridge, she describes her love as an angel, something she never thought possible before. Her love's voice is her remedy when she is not feeling like herself. The second half of the bridge talks about how leaving or being left behind can be painful, but she will make time for her love because they are worth it. In the final chorus, the memories of their trip down the 1 and their time together in New York City are still fresh, and she continues to roll them in her head.

Finally the music industry is getting back on the right track
We need more artists like her. Her style reminds me of Alina Baraz, Jhene Aiko, Sade, Sabrina Claudio...all of them are amazing artist but still underrated. Thumbs up. There is hope for music yet ❤

Helena H.P Hanna ya I think Ariana grande and all these 2000s artists had their fair share of fame , ppl like this I feel are more deserving, not to say all the artists I mentioned are not talented but we need fresh new artists now and thenLike Billie , Khalid and all the new artists today they define this era , and music like hers have a different sound then pop which I feel like is more appreciated nowadays

@Natalie I didn't know she was racist. That is too bad. I say we are all human beings regardless of race and religion ❤
