Lo que duran dos peces de hielo
En un güisqui on the rocks,
En vez de fingir,
O, estrellarme una copa de celos,
Le dio por reír.
De pronto me vi,
Ladrando, a las puertas del cielo.
Me dejó un neceser con agravios,
La miel en los labios
Y escarcha en el pelo.
Tenían razón
Mis amantes
En eso de que, antes,
El malo era yo,
Con una excepción:
Esta vez,
Yo quería quererla querer
Y ella no.
Así que se fue,
Me dejó el corazón
En los huesos
Y yo de rodillas.
Desde el taxi,
Y, haciendo un exceso,
Me tiró dos besos...
Uno por mejilla.
Y regresé
A la maldición
Del cajón sin su ropa,
A la perdición
De los bares de copas,
A las cenicientas
De saldo y esquina,
Y, por esas ventas
Del fino Laina,
Pagando las cuentas
De gente sin alma
Que pierde la calma
Con la cocaína,
Volviéndome loco,
Derrochando
La bolsa y la vida
La fuí, poco a poco,
Dando por perdida.
Y eso que yo,
Paro no agobiar con
Flores a María,
Para no asediarla
Con mi antología
De sábanas frías
Y alcobas vacías,
Para no comprarla
Con bisutería,
Ni ser el fantoche
Que va, en romería,
Con la cofradía
Del Santo Reproche,
Tanto la quería,
Que, tardé, en aprender
A olvidarla, diecinueve días
Y quinientas noches.
Dijo hola y adiós,
Y, el portazo, sonó
Como un signo de interrogación,
Sospecho que, así,
Se vengaba, a través del olvido,
Cupido de mi.
No pido perdón,
¿Para qué? si me va a perdonar
Porque ya no le importa...
Siempre tuvo la frente muy alta,
La lengua muy larga
Y la falda muy corta.
Me abandonó,
Como se abandonan
Los zapatos viejos,
Destrozó el cristal
De mis gafas de lejos,
Sacó del espejo
Su vivo retrato,
Y, fui, tan torero,
Por los callejones
Del juego y el vino,
Que, ayer, el portero,
Me echó del casino
De Torrelodones.
Qué pena tan grande,
Negaría el Santo Sacramento,
En el mismo momento
Que ella me lo mande.
Y eso que yo,
Paro no agobiar con
Flores a María,
Para no asediarla
Con mi antología
De sábanas frías
Y alcobas vacías,
Para no comprarla
Con bisutería,
Ni ser el fantoche
Que va, en romería,
Con la cofradía
Del Santo Reproche,
Tanto la quería,
Que, tardé, en aprender
A olvidarla, diecinueve días
Y quinientas noches.

"19 días y 500 noches" by María Jiménez is a melancholic song about the devastating breakup of a relationship where the singer, the singer, finds himself drowning in despair, unable to cope with the loneliness that comes with the end of the relationship. The song begins by saying that their love lasted as briefly as two ice cubes in a glass of whiskey on the rocks. The singer didn't pretend or throw a fit of jealousy; instead, he found himself barking like a stray dog at the gates of heaven. The woman left him with a makeup case that contained all of her grudges against him, honey on her lips, and frost in her hair.
The singer goes on to say that his ex-girlfriends were right about him, that he was the bad guy, and the only exception was this woman. He goes on to say that he wanted to love her, but she didn't want that kind of love. After she left him, he found himself spiraling, drinking his nights away in bars and chasing women who he knew didn't care for him. They say that hindsight is 20/20, and this is certainly true for the singer. He says that he loved her so much, but it took him 19 days and 500 nights to learn how to forget her.

Lo nuestro duró
Our relationship lasted
Lo que duran dos peces de hielo
As long as two ice fish
En un güisqui on the rocks,
Drinking whisky on the rocks
En vez de fingir,
Instead of pretending
O, estrellarme una copa de celos,
Or throwing a glass of jealousy at me
Le dio por reír.
She decided to laugh
De pronto me vi,
Suddenly I found myself
Como un perro de nadie,
Like a stray dog
Ladrando, a las puertas del cielo.
Barking at the gates of heaven
Me dejó un neceser con agravios,
She left me with a case full of grievances
La miel en los labios
Sweetness on the lips
Y escarcha en el pelo.
And frost on the hair
Tenían razón
My lovers were right
Mis amantes
My lovers
En eso de que, antes,
About the fact that before
El malo era yo,
I was the bad one
Con una excepción:
With one exception:
Esta vez,
This time
Yo quería quererla querer
I wanted to love her
Y ella no.
And she didn't
Así que se fue,
So she left
Me dejó el corazón
She left my heart
En los huesos
In pieces
Y yo de rodillas.
And I was on my knees
Desde el taxi,
From the taxi
Y, haciendo un exceso,
And, going over the top
Me tiró dos besos...
She blew me two kisses...
Uno por mejilla.
One on each cheek.
Dijo hola y adiós,
She said hello and goodbye
Y, el portazo, sonó
And the door closed
Como un signo de interrogación,
Like a question mark
Sospecho que, así,
I suspect that, like that
Se vengaba, a través del olvido,
She was taking revenge through forgetting
Cupido de mi.
Cupid of mine.
No pido perdón,
I'm not asking for forgiveness
¿Para qué? si me va a perdonar
What for? if she's going to forgive me anyway
Porque ya no le importa...
Because she doesn't care anymore...
Siempre tuvo la frente muy alta,
She always held her head high
La lengua muy larga
Her tongue was very long
Y la falda muy corta.
And her skirt was very short.
Me abandonó,
She abandoned me
Como se abandonan
Like you abandon
Los zapatos viejos,
Old shoes
Destrozó el cristal
She broke the glass
De mis gafas de lejos,
Of my far-sighted glasses
Sacó del espejo
She took down from the mirror
Su vivo retrato,
Her lively portrait
Y, fui, tan torero,
And I was so brave
Por los callejones
Through the alleys
Del juego y el vino,
Of gambling and wine
Que, ayer, el portero,
That yesterday, the doorman
Me echó del casino
Threw me out of the casino
De Torrelodones.
In Torrelodones.
Qué pena tan grande,
What a great shame
Negaría el Santo Sacramento,
I would deny the Holy Sacrament
En el mismo momento
At the same moment
Que ella me lo mande.
That she tells me to.
Y eso que yo,
And yet, I
Paro no agobiar con
To avoid overwhelming her with
Flores a María,
Flowers for María
Para no asediarla
To not harass her
Con mi antología
With my anthology
De sábanas frías
Of cold sheets
Y alcobas vacías,
And empty bedrooms
Para no comprarla
To not buy her
Con bisutería,
With costume jewelry
Ni ser el fantoche
Nor be the show-off
Que va, en romería,
Who goes on pilgrimage
Con la cofradía
With the brotherhood
Del Santo Reproche,
Of the Holy Rebuke,
Tanto la quería,
I loved her so much
Que, tardé, en aprender
That it took me a while to learn
A olvidarla, diecinueve días
To forget her, nineteen days
Y quinientas noches.
And five hundred nights.
Y regresé
And I returned
A la maldición
To the curse
Del cajón sin su ropa,
Of the drawer without her clothes,
A la perdición
To the damnation
De los bares de copas,
Of the bars with drinks
A las cenicientas
To the Cinderellas
De saldo y esquina,
Of the bargain and corner girls
Y, por esas ventas
And, through those sales
Del fino Laina,
Of the fine Laina
Pagando las cuentas
Paying the bills
De gente sin alma
Of people without souls
Que pierde la calma
Who lose their composure
Con la cocaína,
With cocaine
Volviéndome loco,
Driving me crazy,
Derrochando
Wasting
La bolsa y la vida
My money and my life
La fuí, poco a poco,
I gradually became
Dando por perdida.
Giving up on her.
