In 2015, she released her eponymous debut EP, however Mendonça only gained prominence after releasing her first eponymous live album in 2016, which received a triple platinum certificate for the 240,000 copies sold. "Infiel - Ao Vivo", a song included in the album, became one of the most played songs in Brazil and received a triple diamond disc certificate, giving Mendonça national visibility. Her second album Realidade, was released in 2017 and received a Latin Grammy nomination in the Best Sertaneja Music Album. In 2019, she released the album Todos os Cantos, a project scripted with shows recorded by the singer in all capitals in the country. The album earned her a triple platinum certification for the 240,000 copies sold and the Latin Grammy award in the Best Sertaneja Music Album.
On 5 November 2021, Mendonça embarked on an air taxi with four other people on board towards Caratinga, Minas Gerais, Brazil, where she was expected to perform in a local concert. The plane crashed, killing Mendonça, her uncle (who was also her manager), her producer and two crew members. All five deaths were officially confirmed shortly after on a live coverage by TV Globo.

The lyrics to Marília Mendonça's song "Bem Pior Que Eu" speak about a complex love triangle and the emotional turmoil caused by it. The singer acknowledges that they shouldn't be in this situation, as they don't even know the other person involved, but they still feel guilty. They point out that it is the other person who is behaving worse, as they neither leave their partner nor stop seeing the singer. The other person takes out their anger on the singer, using them for moments of pleasure, but ultimately doesn't truly commit to either relationship.
The lyrics reflect the conflicting emotions of the singer. On one hand, they recognize that they shouldn't be involved in this situation and that the other person shouldn't be contacting them. However, they still respond and engage, despite their initial thoughts. The repetition of "Eu penso não, mas falo sim" ("I think no, but I say yes") highlights this internal struggle.
The song explores themes of guilt, desire, and the complexities of love entanglements. It portrays the singer as someone who is reluctantly caught up in a messy situation, while the other person demonstrates a lack of commitment and an inability to fully let go of either relationship.
