Good Occasions
Marble Sounds Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Drunk and sore for so many days
But what's to regret
I've had my way
We could have met but i was too shy
The first thing i said was a soft goodbye

I count on countless good occasions
To be quick and to the point
To perceive the situation
But a constant hesitation
Has been turning me around
Here is hope you can still take it

Whispering you're never seen
You're slipping out
Escaping scenes
Keep it real and kick my dreams
Important deals once agreed

It takes a while to value time
I'll take a break
Arrive too late
If i fall behind it is you i'll find

In a lovely house
In a lovely town

Overall Meaning

The opening lines of Marble Sounds's song "Good Occasions" are a proclamation of the singer's triumphant spirit. They have been through some difficult situations, but they refuse to dwell in regret. "Drunk and sore for so many days / But what's to regret / I've had my way" declares that they will not let the past dictate the future. The next two lines reveal that there was an opportunity for the singer to meet someone special, but their shyness prevented them from making a connection. "We could have met but I was too shy / The first thing I said was a soft goodbye." Here, the singer admits to their faults and reveals a sense of longing for what could have been.

The chorus of the song professes the singer's reliance on "countless good occasions" to break through their perpetual hesitation. They recognize that these opportunities are fleeting, and that they need to be seized immediately. The singer hopes that the person they missed out on is still available and that they can rectify their mistake. "Here is hope you can still take it" shows that they are still determined to make amends.

The second verse of the song speaks of the importance of being true to oneself and not succumbing to the pressures of others. "Whispering you're never seen / You're slipping out / Escaping scenes / Keep it real and kick my dreams / Important deals once agreed." The singer recognizes that they need to prioritize their own desires and dreams, rather than conforming to society's expectations. They also acknowledge that it takes time to truly value the precious commodity that is time, and that often leads to being too late to seize opportunities. "It takes a while to value time / I'll take a break / Arrive too late / If I fall behind it is you I'll find / In a lovely house / In a lovely town" is a touching sentiment created by its melancholic tone.

Me dejaste vacía.

I used to listen to this song when I was stuck in a 9-5 working place 7 years back. The song used to give me a real sense of relief from the robotic cubicle life around me at that time. Somehow, after I quit my job about 5,6 months later, I lost track of this song. Soon after I searched endlessly for the track because I had forgotten the name and could never find it. And somehow today, after 7 years youtube recommended me the track. This feels blessed. 😌
