Give Me a Reason
Marc Anthony Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I should have found a way
I should have worked a little harder just to show you love
If I'd have given
A little more of my time
Maybe I could have saved the best thing that I ever had
And I can't bear to live my life
Knowing that I might be losing you
[Chorus]
Give me a reason to stay
Because I want to
Baby, just give me a sign that let's me know you really care
Show me a better way that
I can love you
Baby, I'll do my best to make a change
Just give me a reason
I wanna please you
I wanna understand
I wanna know that you still want me when I touch your hand
I've got a feeling
That you're just scared to try
Girl, I promise you this time that I won't let you down
'Cause I can't take these lonely nights
And I can't bear to live my life
Knowing that I might be losing you
[Chorus]
The lyrics of Marc Anthony's song Give Me a Reason express regret and longing for a second chance in a relationship that appears to be faltering. The singer admits to not working hard enough to show love to his partner, and acknowledges that he may have lost the best thing that ever happened to him as a result. He expresses his desire to stay and pleads with his partner to give him a reason to, to show that she cares and to signal that there is still hope for their love. The singer promises to try harder, to be the kind of partner that he should have been from the start, and to make a change in the relationship that will bring back the love and understanding that they used to have.
The song's lyrics speak to the universal experience of wanting a second chance in a relationship, and its melodies, soft and dramatic, amplify the emotions expressed in the words. The chorus, in particular, is powerful, with its repeated plea for a reason to stay echoing the desperation of someone who feels that they are losing the person they love.
Overall, Give Me a Reason is a poignant song that captures the pain and hope of trying to save a relationship that may be slipping away.
