I Wanna Be Free
Marc Anthony Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
I've followed signs
On many a road
Tried to find
What was right
And do what I'm told
You cross the line
And never can go back home
I've been here
And I've been there
Always on the go
Looking for
Something more
To call my own
Up to now
I have found
That life as a whole was cold
'Cause I've never belonged
I want to be free
And live without warning
I want to finally see
What it's like on the other side
I want to be free
'Cause a new day is dawning
I want to be me
I want to show the world I'm alive
Who's to say
I need change
And I am not what I'm not
Look at me
And what you see
Has been through a lot
Now it's time
For me to find
What love's really all about
And all that I've lived without
I want to be free
And live without warning
I want to finally see
What it's like on the other side
I want to be free
'Cause a new day is dawning
I want to be me
I want to show the world I'm alive
The lyrics to Marc Anthony's song "I Wanna Be Free" speak about the search for self-discovery and liberation. Throughout his life, the singer has sought direction and tried to follow the rules given to him, only to realize that sometimes, crossing the line means that you can never go back to the way things were. Despite his experiences, he has always been on the move, searching for a deeper understanding of himself and his place in the world. The chorus emphasizes his desire to break free from convention and live without restrictions, to see what is on the other side and to finally be true to himself.
The verse "Who's to say I need change, and I am not what I'm not" speaks of the pressure to conform and to change oneself to fit in with society's expectations. The singer acknowledges that he has been through a lot and that his experiences have shaped him into the person he is today. It is time for him to discover what love truly means and to reclaim his authentic self, which he feels he has lost along the way.
Overall, the song "I Wanna Be Free" speaks of the universal human struggle for self-discovery and identity. Marc Anthony's soulful vocals and emotional lyrics convey the message that breaking free from tradition and being true to yourself is a worthy and essential pursuit.
